Company’s New Security Solutions Designed to Guard Against the Threat of Complex and Costly Data Breaches
MARKHAM, Ontario — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 13, 2017 — Toshiba Client Solutions Canada Ltd, a subsidiary of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the addition of Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC) and Toshiba Smart Data Encryption (SmartDE) with BitLocker Management as part of the company’s robust Security Solutions Suite. Toshiba plans to offer Toshiba Mobile Zero Client and SmartDE solutions to meet diverse, mobile, endpoint IT security needs where compliance and security regulations are particularly stringent.
The company is ready for customers to begin piloting the Toshiba Mobile Zero Client solution in Canada while Toshiba SmartDE with BitLocker Management is ready for deployment. Interested parties may contact Toshiba at TAIS-Security-Solutions@toshiba.com for additional information on implementation, pricing and support.
“As a pioneer in the mobile computing industry for the past three decades, security and data protection have always been a priority for Toshiba and today’s announcement builds upon our existing security portfolio,” said Mini Saluja, Director, marketing and product development, Toshiba Client Solutions Canada. “We have seen the modern workplace evolve into a more mobile and virtual environment, resulting in an increase of data breach threats. Security is no longer optional, but an essential part of any organization’s IT strategy. We believe our suite of security solutions is poised to help safeguard against these costly and complex data breaches.”
According to a recent Ponemon Institute-IBM Report, the average total cost of a data breach for an organization is $4M, which is up 29 percent since 2013. The same report found more than 707M records were compromised globally in 2015 with the average cost of a lost or stolen record being $158. Industries with the highest data breach threat include financial, healthcare, professional services, technology, retail, media and publishing as well as government.
Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC)
Toshiba Mobile Zero Client (TMZC) is the first mobile zero client solution based on standard laptop designs. This solution is ideal for organizations with mobile workforces that work with highly sensitive data and must maintain the integrity of information. TMZC is the IT security solution that provides users with maximum end-point protection because zero data are stored on the device locally. A flexible solution, TMZC seamlessly functions with both Citrix and VMware to easily integrate into existing IT infrastructures.
Initially, Toshiba will offer mobile zero client versions of the 13-inch Portégé Z30 and 15.6-inch Tecra A50 and Tecra C50 form factors. With no operating system, hard drive (HDD) or other local storage, TMZC allows users to access their virtual desktop, whether at work or home, with no data hosted locally on either the HDD or solid state drive (SSD).
Beyond supporting the storage of data securely away from the device, TMZC can provide added protection through Toshiba’s uniquely developed BIOS, which is designed and built in–house to help remove the risk of third-party interference. Toshiba’s zero client BIOS is intended to authenticate with a Toshiba Authentication Server. In the event a Toshiba Mobile Zero Client is lost or stolen, an IT manager can restrict access and prevent any further operations.
Toshiba Mobile Zero Client differentiates itself from competitive thin and zero client alternatives currently available, by utilizing the form factor of a notebook computer. This approach allows organizations to enable its employees to work productively, efficiently and securely regardless of their location. This solutions differentiation is key for organizations exploring off-premise working patterns.
Toshiba Smart Data Encryption (SmartDE) with BitLocker Management
Toshiba Smart Data Encryption (SmartDE) with BitLocker Management is full-volume encryption software that encodes all areas of an HDD or SSD for increased security. Toshiba SmartDE uses the AES 256-bit encryption algorithm. AES is an advanced encryption standard adopted by the U.S. government under the Federal Information Processing Standard 197 (or FIPS 197). In addition to encryption, Toshiba SmartDE includes the following features: Centralized Management, Multiple Sign-on Options, Removable Media Access Control, Portable Device Access Control, Remote Wipe, Automatic Wipe, Key Recovery and BitLocker Support.
Toshiba is set to offer flexible implementation options for SmartDE including On-Prem Server-based Management, Cloud-based Management and Off-line Management. Providing a range of additional security functions, SmartDE is suitable for businesses of all sizes to help control and secure their corporate information. The encryption solution is available to organizations with multiple licensing options.
Smart DE delivers full protection by encrypting a PC’s HDD to prevent the leakage of vital information. In the event the HDD is removed from a PC, access to data by third parties remains blocked because every area of the HDD is encrypted.
As well as encrypting data across the entire HDD, SmartDE enables users
to encrypt specific files and folders. Also, because its file and folder
encryption supports a self-expansion mode, the recipient of an email can
decrypt and access the data on a PC without Smart DE by inputting the
correct password when prompted.
