ITT Corporation announces image analysis toolbox for Esri® ArcGIS® platform

The latest phase of Esri and ITT integration allows GIS professionals to access image analysis functionality directly from ArcGIS desktop and server.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.– July 13, 2010 – ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT), the developers of ENVI® image processing and analysis software, today announces the third phase of the strategic integration of its software technology with the ArcGIS platform from Esri.  Building on the multi-year integration of the two platforms, this latest phase will give ArcGIS users the ability to access ENVI tools for analyzing geospatial imagery directly from within the ArcGIS desktop and server environments. Coupled with Esri’s release of the new imagery analysis window in ArcGIS 10, the new ENVI tools will deliver unprecedented imagery analysis capabilities to geographic information systems (GIS) professionals worldwide and further the Esri and ITT commitment to make imagery a core component of GIS.

“One of our key goals with ArcGIS 10 was to make imagery core to GIS not only by providing easy access to tools for interpreting and processing imagery within ArcGIS, but also by giving our partners an improved platform for integrating advanced image analysis functionality into today’s GIS workflows, “said Jack Dangermond, president of Esri. “With this phase of the Esri and ITT integration, ITT will deliver high performance image analysis tools across the entire ArcGIS spectrum including the desktop, enterprise and web to give GIS users worldwide direct access to the important information contained in geospatial imagery.”

“The flexibility and extensibility of both the ArcGIS and ENVI platforms has allowed us to work with Esri to very quickly respond to the feedback from the user community we received from the first two phases of our integration,” said Richard Cooke, president of ITT Visual Information Solutions. “In this third phase we are able to blend image analysis so seamlessly and powerfully into the ArcGIS platform that we are confident users will realize significant gains in productivity and be able to deliver a much richer set of geospatial information to GIS applications.”

The ENVI Toolbox for ArcGIS will provide trusted and proven ENVI image analysis capabilities as a set of discreet tools that will be automatically available from the ArcGIS Toolbox upon the installation of ENVI products. The ENVI tools will make it easier than ever before to add important information from imagery to a wide variety of GIS applications. Popular functions for image analysis will be provided in the toolbox, including tools to extract features, classify land cover, detect anomalies, identify targets and more.  The ENVI tools can be used independently or easily incorporated into models to add image analysis functionality to GIS workflows and to publish functionality to the Esri ArcGIS Server environment.  In addition, these tools can be extended or customized using Esri’s Python scripting interface. The ENVI Toolbox will be available in ENVI 4.8 and ENVI EX in the fall of 2010.

As a part of this phase of the integration, ITT will also release a new version of its popular ENVI product for deployment on Esri’s ArcGIS Server – called ENVI for ArcGIS® Server. This new server-based product will provide ENVI capabilities to ArcGIS Server users in both workgroups and enterprise environments. ENVI for ArcGIS Server will be available in a standard version, providing a set of ENVI tools most popular with GIS professionals.  ITT will also release an advanced version of ENVI for ArcGIS Server that will deliver a robust set of pre-built ENVI tools, support for the NITF file format, and the ability to deploy a host of customized tools from the full ENVI compliment of image analysis functionality.  The ENVI tools available with ENVI for ArcGIS Server will also be compatible with Esri’s GIS Web Services allowing image analysis functionality to be incorporated into web mapping applications developed with ArcGIS Server.
