Organization Utilizes Cityworks for Water Maintenance and Other Activities
May 04, 2010 -- Sandy, UT — Central Arkansas Water (CAW) has implemented an enterprise work management system and mobile deployment with Cityworks by Azteca Systems, Inc., the leading provider of GIS-centric asset maintenance management solutions. Used throughout the organization and allowing staff to leverage and build upon their GIS investment, CAW plans to upgrade to Cityworks Server MMS in the near future.
Previously using a work management system that had proved ineffective, in September 2007 CAW began a search for a new software solution with the potential of supporting field users, as paperless as possible, and fully integrated with ESRI’s ArcGIS. Cityworks was deemed best suited to fit CAW’s needs and Azteca Systems’ Business Partner Woolpert, Inc. was chosen by CAW to assist in the implementation. In September 2008 CAW went live with Cityworks. Cityworks Desktop and Storeroom are now used within CAW’s main enterprise while Cityworks Anywhere and DataPump are deployed across 61 laptops in the field that are synchronized daily with the main enterprise system. Cityworks allows CAW to seamlessly leverage their asset inventory data (geodatabase) and customized ESRI applications n ArcGIS.
“Our GIS staff was surprised to see how easy Cityworks was to implement,” states Buck Lewis, CAW Project Manager. “We were also surprised at the ease at which end users were allowed to add their own custom event layers to the map. The final result is a system that is tightly integrated with the existing GIS asset data through an interface that allows non-GIS experts the ability to create, edit, and interact with location-based data.”
CAW utilizes Cityworks to manage assets and infrastructure associated with water treatment plants, tanks/towers, and pump stations, including the grounds, structures, and assets/infrastructure within the structures. Creating new layers and tables in their enterprise geodatabase allows CAW to fully utilize Cityworks for all of their water maintenance activities including water distribution and treatment assets. CAW also manages fleet maintenance and safety training within Cityworks. Moving forward, CAW's GIS staff has completed geodatabase design and data migration for plant maintenance operations which went on-line in 2009. Woolpert assisted in design of Cityworks Server MMS, Azteca’s next generation, ArcGIS Server-based web application which CAW's GIS staff will deploy later in 2010.
“Building upon ArcGIS was important to Central Arkansas Water and they have demonstrated how easily our system can be immediately put to use with an existing geodatabase,” states Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems, Inc. “Cityworks and ArcGIS build upon and strengthen each other’s capabilities and functionality, and with Cityworks being the only true GIS-centric maintenance management program on the market, it is the superior option for an organization that wants to leverage their GIS investment.”
