Toshiba Introduces New, Compact N-Channel Power MOSFETs for Load Switching in Industrial, Automotive and Lighting Applications

IRVINE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 17, 2017Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. ( TAEC)* today announced the expansion of its lineup of automotive N-channel power MOSFETs with the addition of the 60V SSM3K341R and the 100V SSM3K361R. Housed in small SOT-23F packages, the new MOSFETs feature industry-leading[1] low on-resistance and are suited to load switching in LED driver applications, including automotive dashboard meters and headlights and LED TV backlights.

Increasing demand for power-saving LEDs has led to the growing use of N-channel MOSFETs as switches for LED drivers. Toshiba’s SSM3K341R and SSM3K361R address this demand with the industry’s best typical RDS(ON) ratings (@VGS=4.5V) of 36mΩ and 65mΩ, respectively. Additionally, both devices support a maximum channel temperature of 175°C, which enables them to be used in a wide range of industrial and automotive applications.

The SSM3K341R and SSM3K361R reduce heat dissipation resulting from turn-on loss by approximately 65 percent when compared to previous products[2]. The small package size of the new MOSFETs maintains the same level of heat dissipation while reducing the overall footprint by approximately 64 percent when compared to a conventional SOT-89 package. Both products are AEC-Q101 qualified for automotive applications.

Toshiba has also introduced four new MOSFETs with even smaller package sizes. The SSM6K341NU and SSM6K361NU utilize the SOT-1220 package; while the SSM3K341TU and SSM3K361TU are housed in UFM (2.0×2.1mm) packages. These MOSFETs feature the same low on-resistance as the SSM3K341R and SSM3K361R, while reducing the package mounting area by 43 percent and 40 percent, respectively.
