USC Spatial Sciences Institute To Host 7th Annual LA Geospatial Summit at USC Radisson Hotel

University of Southern California will gather geospatial industry professionals (Esri, BAE Systems, US Military Academy & more) & students from six SoCal universities to examine trends in Geospatial Science

Los Angeles, CA, Dec 15, 2016 – John P. Wilson, Professor and Director, USC Spatial Sciences Institute, and the Program Committee of the Los Angeles Geospatial Summit have announced the details of their hallmark one-day conference: The Seventh Annual Los Angeles Geospatial Summit will take place at the USC Radisson Hotel (3540 S Figueroa Street Los Angeles CA 90007) on Friday, February 24, 2017 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The event will feature addresses and discussions from many leading innovators in the world of geographic information science (GIS) and technology. The Summit also will feature presentations from students representing University of Redlands; Occidental College; University of California, Los Angeles; Loyola Marymount University; California State University, Long Beach; and USC.

“At the USC Spatial Sciences Institute, we  collaborate with a cross-cutting array of researchers, businesses, nonprofits, NGOs, and other entities from a wide range of disciplines and industries to analyze, model, and visualize location-based data,” said Wilson. “Although there are many geospatial conferences across the country and around the world, our Summit has the distinctive mission to connect current leaders in the spatial sciences with undergraduate and graduate students from numerous different academic institutions who are the next generation of innovators.”

At the Summit, students and professionals will get the industry lowdown on the potential opportunities from drones with GIS, hear how the City of Los Angeles’ GeoHub has impacted the cross-over between Big Data and government, and discover “tips and tricks” for GPS data collection. Students can also get access to mentorship advice from some of the industry’s leading minds through a series of networking programs, poster presentations and “lightning talks.”

Plenary speakers for the Summit will include two members of the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti: Lilian Coral, Chief Data Officer, and Sari Ladhi, Data Fellow. The two data specialists will present their latest findings in a presentation called “Los Angeles GeoHub: The Impact of Open Data in Government.” Dana J. Poirier, GXP General Manager, Geospatial Exploitation Products of BAE Systems, and Mark Greninger, Chief Data Officer of Los Angeles County, also will be featured speakers at the event.
