W2O Group Acquires Fox Communications

Appoints Lynn Fox Managing Director in WCG’s Technology Practice

SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 26, 2015 — W2O Group announced today that it has acquired Fox Communications, a boutique communications firm based in San Francisco. Fox Communications Founder Lynn Fox, widely considered to be among the top communications practitioners in Silicon Valley, will now lead media and engagement as a managing director in the technology practice of WCG, a W2O Group company. Her experience extends across consumer and B2B technology markets and includes senior communications roles at Apple, Twitter and Google, among others.

“Lynn has played a pivotal role in raising the public profiles of several of the tech industry’s most beloved brands,” said Rob Cronin, who co-leads the WCG technology practice with Michael Hall. “She also represents the best in what we look for in a leader. Not only is she a true media relations pro, she also recognizes that the communications landscape is rapidly changing and is eager to embrace new ways of doing business.”

Fox established her media foundation when she launched DIRECTV in 1993, and has since held senior leadership roles at a number of global consumer brands, including Apple, Google, Twitter, Palm and Lucasfilm. She started Fox Communications in 2011 to help a growing population of tech startups, founders and VCs navigate the confusing world of PR. Since then, she has ushered Pebble, the OS Fund, WSJ, Swell (acquired by Apple), Sense, HTC and other clients through countless launches, funding announcements, events and other activations. Her deep expertise in the technology communications landscape will play a critical role as WCG continues to enhance its integrated technology offering.

“WCG has been pushing the boundaries of modern marketing and communications for some time, with an understanding of audience behavior and segmentation that is absolutely mind blowing,” said Fox. “I look forward to introducing the tech community to an agency that really thinks and acts like a tech company.”

WCG Analytics: Unlocking Insights into Audiences that Tech Marketers Care about Most

Analytics and data-driven insights are at the foundation of all communications programming for WCG clients. The firm makes use of its own proprietary technology to gather and analyze data reflecting the online behavior and preferences of the audiences that are most coveted by technology companies. These insights ultimately serve as the basis for a fully-integrated marketing offering, including paid, earned, shared and owned channels.

“We began attracting tech companies, including Intel, HP, NETSCOUT and INRIX, when they heard about WCG’s analytics-informed work in healthcare and digital health,” said Aaron Strout, president of WCG. “Today’s announcement reflects our ongoing commitment to acquire the best marketing and communications talent in tech. We believe that great people combined with analytics and our integrated model is the right formula. And the market is responding. Every week, we are hearing from tech brands, large and small, who want to better understand their customers, their influencers and do a better job at reaching and engaging them – not just via the press, but wherever our data says they are.”

Recently, WCG added new technology-specific offerings to its already-robust analytics capabilities. For example, the “IT Decision Maker Tribe” is a curated database containing the online public profiles of thousands of director-level through CIO buyers and influencers at small, medium and Fortune-500 businesses. This new audience-specific database (in WCG parlance -- “tribe”) is one example of a larger ecosystem of technology tribes that WCG uses to understand and measure audience-specific behavior patterns. Other tribes that exist today or are in development include technology media, developers, industry analysts, investors, millennial enthusiasts, HR and benefits leaders, chief marketing officers, and technology resellers.
