ECC Emerging Companies – Promotes the interests of companies whose annual revenue is less than $5M.

The Emerging Companies Committee hosted another exciting installment of the popular EDAC - Jim Hogan series, providing important information for small companies. This event, held on May 6, 2015, featured a conversation with Ravi Subramanian, General Manager of the Analog Mixed-Signal Business Unit of Mentor Graphics and Former President & CEO of Berkeley Design Automation. Additional information.

The committee is planning an event on patents and patent litigation in EDA in the fall.

Previous installments of the EDAC - Jim Hogan series are available in the EDAC media library.

Export and Government Relations – Supports the interests of EDA suppliers and customers in matters pertaining to product export.

Representing the EDAC export committee, Larry Disenhof from Cadence and Karthic Laggisetty from Intel presented in the DAC Management Day forum on June 9. They discussed the need for EDA companies to ensure they understand when there are export restrictions on data that is being shared by their customers, and what to do when such restrictions are in place. The key is to ask their customers for the information, and then to protect the data accordingly. Attendees at the session commented that this message needs to be heard by a wider audience since compliance is everyoneÂ’s responsibility.

Interoperability – Drives EDA standards and quality for the benefit of the industry.

The Interoperability Committee held it's annual OS Vendor Review on May 5. This face-to-face meeting included presentations from Microsoft, Red Hat, and Suse. Each of the vendors discussed their product development and support plans for current and upcoming OS releases.

Richard Paw, Interoperability committee chair, presented an overview of the committee activities at the annual CELUG (Centralized Enterprise Licensing User Group) meeting at DAC on June 10 & 11.

Be sure to check the EDAC OS Roadmap for the latest information as you plan upcoming projects and purchases.

Phil Kaufman Award – Selects the recipients of the prestigious EDAC/CEDA Phil Kaufman Award to honor an individual who has had a demonstrable IMPACT on the field of electronic design through contributions in Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

There's still time to nominate qualified candidates!. Nominations for the 2015 Phil Kaufman Award are open until June 30. Nomination forms are available on the EDAC web site. The 2015 recipient will be announced over the summer, with the award presentation planned for the fall.

License Management & Anti-Piracy – Provides a forum for members to identify and solve software licensing and piracy problems common to EDA vendors and their customers.

The LMA committee had multiple discussions with our mutual enterprise customers represented by CELUG. Committee chair John Harms presented to CELUG via teleconference about EDA vendor requirements for detection of HostID duplication, followed by CELUG member feedback. This provided a fresh understanding about enterprise needs, especially for high availability license servers.

The twin themes of HostID duplication and high availability were continued at DAC during the CELUG meeting on June 10 & 11. These face-to-face presentations and breakout sessions between EDA vendors and their mutual customers significantly helped both groups better understand each other concerns.

Also at DAC, the committee met with Flexera and V.i. Labs at the annual face-to-face meeting. The vendors shared their product roadmaps and answered questions about key technologies and trends in the industry, followed by a discussion about the future and steps to protect our intellectual property.
