The Dremel Brand Steps up Its Reputation as the Brand for Makers at Maker Faire Bay Area, May 15-17

Dremel, AutoDesk and HP to showcase how project ideas become a reality

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 11, 2015 — The Dremel brand will build on its longstanding history of collaboration with the Maker community at Maker Faire Bay Area by putting its newest tools in their hands and digging deeper to learn what motivates their creative process.

“Every Maker has a story,” said John Kavanagh, president of Dremel. “As a brand, we learn from these end users every day and challenge ourselves to make each project experience more efficient and more rewarding than the last. What better way to shine a spotlight on their work than at ‘The Greatest Show & Tell on Earth.’”

Autodesk , HP, and the Dremel brand will showcase their products and bring a number of end-to-end solutions to life at Maker Faire. Autodesk, the Dremel brand’s 3D software partner, will feature their Tinkerplay app at Dremel booth (booth 1429) and show off the Dremel 3D Idea Builder in their space outside Zone 10 near the East gate. Sprout by HP, a new immersive computing platform, will enable event attendees to project their selfies onto wood. They can apply the finishing touches with Dremel tools by etching into the traced outline. Maker Faire attendees must start at the HP booth (Booth #2151 in the main Expo Hall) and then visit the Dremel booth to complete their project.

The Dremel brand will also extend its recent “ Why I Make” video project at Maker Faire, capturing the passion and inspiration that propels new projects forward and transforms ideas into reality. Interactive work stations designed around personalization and customization will include direct access to the latest Dremel tools, including the Dremel 3D Idea Builder (new 3D printer).

The Dremel 3D Idea Builder launched last fall with a suite of ongoing inspiration, design tools and support. Since then, the Dremel team has worked to make 3D printing accessible to a thriving Maker community and expose new generations to hands-on opportunities to merge the digital world with the physical. Dremel will host two separate 3D Idea Builder giveaways at Maker Faire.

“Today, if you can imagine something, you can make it,” Kavanagh said. “Like a rotary tool, 3D printing is really a conduit to something much greater – creative expression and customization. Our job is simple: get the right tools in the right hands. What people do with them – the unmet needs they identify and solve for every day – that’s the fascinating part. We’re looking forward to learning more about our users’ motivations at Maker Faire, and then giving them access to tools and partnerships that bring those ideas to life.”
