The Second Wuhu Yangtze River Highway Bridge spans the Yangtze River between Shijian in Wuwei County and Eshan Mountain in Fanchang. Currently under construction, it is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge and the largest assembled using whole external pre-stressed steel beam sections. When connected with the completed Wuhu-Tongling Freeway, the bridge will measure approximately 57 kilometers long and play a vital role in improving the regional highway network, pushing forward Wan-Jiang urban belt construction for industry transfer and promoting regional economic and social development.
Xi Jin, president of Engineering Technology Research Instituteat Anhui Transport Consulting & Design Institute, said,“Bentley’s bridge solution has enhanced design efficiency and quality, and with the ability to pass the 3D information model into operations, it can help deliver a reduction in lifecycle cost plus effective management of risk on projects.”
The project team generated what it calls a virtual engineering environment by overlaying Digital Elevation Models on satellite imagery, enabling it to select the optimal location to minimize construction risk and environmental conflicts. Bentley’s bridge solution, which includes MicroStation and ProjectWise plus design and structural analysis applications, is then used to create a 3D model that can be used for virtual construction, avoiding the risks and difficulties of complex project construction.
