World Maker Faire New York 2014 Announces Roster of Makers Exhibiting at 5th Annual DIY Festival

SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Aug 26, 2014 -- World Maker Faire, the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, is excited to announce the roster of over 700 makers selected to share their amazing inventions, experiments, technical advancements, hobbies, artistry, and more. This year's festival, taking place on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, will be especially memorable as the event marks its fifth anniversary in New York in addition to celebrating two significant World's Fair anniversaries. The makers selected will highlight the best of the maker movement and showcase for Faire goers the ingenuity and innovation that was at the core of the World's Fairs.

The collection of makers will include more than one third that are new to the Faire as well as many returning favorites, attractions, and performers. Popular areas of interest include personal drones, wearables, 3D printing, humanoid robots, young makers, hackerspaces and makerspaces, and much more. All makers can be found on the Maker Faire web site at http://makerfaire.com/meet-the-makers. Some highlights of the makers at World Maker Faire New York 2014 include:

World Maker Faire is excited to welcome back a longtime Goldsmith Sponsor, RadioShack Corporation. RadioShack will be bringing to World Maker Faire New York 2014 one of the Faire's most favorite hands-on learning experiences, the Learn to Solder area.

"We are excited to again bring our Learn to Solder area to World Maker Faire New York 2014 after helping over 4,000 adults and children make their own blinking LED rocket ship pin at Maker Faire Bay Area 2014 in May. For many, it was their first time to use a soldering iron," said Joe Magnacca, chief executive officer, RadioShack. "We are proud to enable a new experience for so many and we hope it encourages people to continue to create, make, and invent. In our new interactive stores, we are celebrating these individuals who innovate by making their inventions available to a wide audience in our Discover It area. Makers are part of our history and an important part of our future as well." World Maker Faire participants are encouraged to stop by RadioShack's booth to experience the products the company offers and see first-hand its Fix It Here! mobile device repair service.

About Maker Faire
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth -- a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It's a place where people of all ages and backgrounds gather together to show what they are making and share what they are learning.

Maker Faire launched in 2006 in San Mateo, California, less than a year after its parent publication, MAKE Magazine, launched in 2005. Maker Faire celebrated 100 Faires in 2013 alone and has reached over 1.5 million attendees globally since its inception. The ninth annual Maker Faire Bay Area welcomed some 1,100 maker entries and over 130,000 attendees. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in five years to 700+ makers and 75,000+ attendees. Detroit, Kansas City, Rome, Paris, Oslo, Trondheim, Newcastle (UK), Orlando, Silver Spring, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Tokyo and Shenzhen host the "featured" Maker Faires (200+ makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires inspire and ignite creative communities everywhere around the United States and internationally.

Located in Sebastopol and Oakland, California, Maker Media has been widely credited with jumpstarting the worldwide Maker Movement, which has been a transforming force in innovation, culture, and education. In addition to publishing MAKE Magazine and producing Maker Faire, Maker Media develops "getting started" kits and books it sells through its Maker Shed store as well as other retail channels.
