Cartographic Update Game-Changer

BlackBridge and MDA Launch Joint Persistent Change Monitoring Solution

Berlin, August 13, 2014:  BlackBridge announces a strategic partnership with the U.S. company, MDA Information Systems LLC (MDA), to introduce a new change monitoring solution, RapidEye Persistent Change Monitoring (RapidEye PCM™).

This new solution incorporates BlackBridge’s RapidEye imagery into MDA’s Persistent Change Monitoring (PCM™) technology. It has been well received by partners and customers alike after its presentation at the GEOINT 2013* Symposium, BlackBridge’s ENABLE 2014, and the Esri User Conference 2014.

RapidEye PCM makes for fast and simple updates to cartographic datasets.  It applies MDA’s patented change detection technology that uses scale- and sensor-independent algorithms to compare a stack of images over time and quickly identify areas with lasting changes. By identifying only lasting changes, such as new construction or permanent infrastructure changes, RapidEye PCM saves up to 90% of the effort and cost required than if the same area were scanned manually.

With the combination of RapidEye imagery and MDA’s PCM technology, users can locate small-scale changes down to 5 by 5 meters and, with the addition of higher-resolution imagery, update cartographic data sets up to 1:5,000 scale.

Scott Douglass, BlackBridge’s product manager, states, “RapidEye PCM is our response to our customer’s need for a simpler, less costly way to update cartographic datasets.”

Roger Mitchell, senior vice president of MDA Information Systems LLC, adds, “With the launch of MDA’s Persistent Change Monitoring for RapidEye imagery, MDA Information Systems and BlackBridge have an opportunity to make a significant breakthrough in geospatial productivity.”
