Euromold 2012: EOS Presents Its Extended Part Property Management (PPM) Concept

Open and flexible concept: scope ranges from standardized to customer-specific, tailor-made solutions

Frankfurt am Main/Germany, November 27, 2012 – EOS, the technology and market leader for design-driven, integrated e-Manufacturing solutions for additive manufacturing (AM), will be presenting its extended Part Property Management (PPM) concept at this year's EuroMold in hall 11, booth E148. This concept enables customers to optimize their use of EOS technology and EOS solutions for their own particular applications. It was introduced at the EUROMOLD 2009 with a focus on standardization in e-Manufacturing, was very well received by the market and has now been extended on the basis of the large amount of feedback. As well as standardization, it now enables customers to flexibly define and adapt component characteristics.

Christiane Krempl, Product Marketing Manager at EOS, emphasizes: "The extended PPM is an open concept. Customers have a free and flexible choice between a wide range of different solutions for manufacturing their components. There is a large scope, with users able to implement EOS standards on several laser-sintering systems in additive manufacturing, specify individual application requirements or even define customer-specific standards. In other words, they can influence part quality individually themselves, in line with their own quality requirements and standards."

Free choice of standardization level: three approaches
EOS offers three solution approaches within the PPM concept. Customers decide in favour of a particular solution on the basis of the extent to which existing standards are to be used or defined individually by the customer.

Solution 1: Plug&Print EOS Standard: part quality defined by EOS
This standard makes e-Manufacturing – and thus additive manufacturing on the basis of laser-sintering – possible using the Part Property Profiles (PPP) published by EOS. This means that EOS defines the PPPs, the customer manufactures parts on this basis. This guarantees standardization and efficiency throughout the value chain – from design to production, including documentation for quality assurance. The clearly defined PPPs for manufactured components, which are published in material data sheets and in the material database, guarantee that all those involved in the value chain work on the same understanding.

Solution 2: Plug&Print EOS Custom: part quality defined by the customer
This approach allows individualized solutions on the basis of customer specifications. As a result, applications can be implemented with a unique part quality. EOS provides customer-made development services, thus doing justice once again to its role as an innovation leader in the field of additive manufacturing. EOS develops the PPPs defined by the customer who then uses them as a basis for parts manufacture. With this approach, the parameter sets can be encoded to protect the customer's intellectual property e.g. if supply companies are to use the parameter sets. The tailor-made solution can be made up of several modules - system, material, process, training and consulting - and is processed as a project.

Solution 3: Edit&Print: flexible definition of part quality depending on the requirements
This approach to a solution allows customers maximum flexibility. They can optimize EOS technology and solutions to their own specific application requirements. The application development at the customer's builds on a reliable basis, benefits from years of EOS know-how in the field of additive manufacturing and thus turns technology optimization into a highly efficient process. EOS also helps customers with training and application support during implementation.

Florian Pfefferkorn, Product Manager Plastics, concludes: "The combination of EOS system, EOS material, EOS parameter sets and EOS training provides a system of standardization across both EOS metal and plastic systems, since it guarantees the defined Part Property Profiles. These provide reliable values for designs suitable for laser-sintering, including tensile strength, elongation at break and moduli of elasticity both for the horizontal X/Y-direction in parallel to the layer as well as for the perpendicular Z-direction. EOS is the very first AM technology supplier in the polymer field to provide values for the vertical, orthogonal Z-direction and is thus setting a new benchmark in the industry."

About EOS
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Germany, EOS is the technology and market leader for design-driven, integrated e-Manufacturing solutions for industrial applications. EOS offers a modular solution portfolio including systems, software and materials and its further development as well as services like maintenance, training, specific application consulting and support. As an Additive Manufacturing (AM) process it allows the fast and flexible production of high-end parts at a repeatable industry level of quality. This disruptive technology paves the way for a paradigm shift in product design and manufacturing. It accelerates product development, offers freedom of design, optimizes part structures – also enabling lattice structures – and functional integration and as such creates significant competitive advantages for its customers.
