MDA expands global network to include two new RADARSAT-2 ground stations

September 11, 2012 -- Richmond, B.C. – MDA’s Information Systems Group (MDA) is pleased to announce two important expansions to its international network of RADARSAT-2 ground stations.

MDA’s RADARSAT-2 receiving and processing station provided to Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) and
installed on La Réunion Island was declared operational in July 2012. The station operator, Conseil Régional de La Réunion, will use the RADARSAT-2 ground station to enable scientific cooperation on land and marine monitoring applications with neighboring countries in southeastern Africa.

MDA has also signed a RADARSAT-2 direct downlink supply contract with Empresa de Servicos e Desenvolvimento de Software, S.A. (EDISOFT) in Portugal. This contract extends the current RADARSAT-1 service already in place with the station to include RADARSAT-2 capability. The ground station, located in the Azores, will support the maritime surveillance requirements of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the academic community in Portugal, as well as other commercial businesses in Western Europe. The RADARSAT-2 service is expected to begin in December 2012. By adding the RADARSAT-2 capability to the EDISOFT system, EMSA will receive full RADARSAT service from four different European stations.

David Belton, the general manager of MDA Geospatial Services International said, “We are excited by the continuing expansion of our international network of RADARSAT-2 ground stations. This expansion will better serve our growing base of clients in Europe and Africa with near real-time geospatial information
products, and conduct commercial services in the region.”
