IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2012 Rally Fighter Car Hits the Road with the Famous Gumball3000 Cross-Country Rally

Watch a Rally Fighter Car Being Built at IMTS 2012

May 24, 2012 -McLean, Va. ... IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2012 Rally Fighter car will be on display at stops along the route of the Gumball3000 cross-country rally starting in New York City on May 24 and ending in Los Angeles on May 31. The Gumball 3000 is considered one of the world’s most exciting events for car lovers because it includes beautiful and rare vehicles not typically showcased elsewhere.

The IMTS Rally Fighter will be on display at Times Square in New York City until noon on Friday, when it gets loaded on a trailer and begins its trek. Stops along the way include:

●Niagara Falls (checkpoint): May 25

●Toronto: May 25

●Detroit: May 26 (1-3 pm at GM PERFORMANCE headquarters)

●Indianapolis: May 26-27 (Indianapolis Motor Speedway)

●St. Louis (checkpoint): May 28

●Kansas City: May 28

●Santa Fe: May 29

●Checkpoints at Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam: May 30

●Las Vegas: May 30

●Los Angeles: May 31

The Rally Fighter is the world’s first open source production vehicle, designed and developed by a collaboration between a global community and Local Motors, a new American car company, at www.local-motors.com. This interactive manufacturing experience allows customers to actually build their own Rally Fighter with professional supervision. The process is efficient and sustainable at 10x faster development and 100x less capital intensity than traditional models.

To highlight the current and future impact of collaborative manufacturing, two Rally Fighters will be showcased at IMTS. This one, built at the Local Motors micro-factory in Chandler, Ariz., this past March and the other which will be built live by the Local

Motors team on the actual IMTS show floor as part of the Emerging Technology Center.
