Geomagic Customers Showcase Geomagic Studio, Freeform and Geomagic Qualify Solutions for Rapid Design and Manufacturing at RAPID 2012

Newly Merged Geomagic and Sensable Solutions, Geomagic Studio® Feature Prominently;
Driving New Competitive Advantage from an Enhanced Capture to Design to Manufacturing Process

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 17, 2012Geomagic,® a global company providing 3D technology solutions for digital reality today announced that next week’s RAPID 2012 event in Atlanta will feature customer work created using Geomagic’s award-wining suite of industrial products for 3D design, reverse engineering, surfacing and inspection. Speakers will be prominently featuring innovative applications using Geomagic’s solutions in talks on;

  • “Additive Manufacturing in Medicine Requires a Multidisciplinary Approach,” where Freeform®-designed custom implants will be showcased as part of a talk on the practical aspects of collaborations between hospital departments. Geomagic acquired Freeform, the market-leading 3D design solution for industries with organically-shaped products, from Sensable Technologies in April.
  • “Heritage, Arts, and 3D Technologies,” where Quebec’s Charles-Olivier Roy of Artisans du Passage will discuss the role of reverse engineering scan data in Geomagic Studio to produce an accurate version of a historical sculpture of local hero Francois de Gaston, knight of Lévis. Geomagic Studio 2012 is the industry’s most intuitive and intelligent solution for transforming 3D scan data into highly accurate polygonal and native CAD models.
  • “How Useful is That! What You Can Do with CT Scanning,” profiling Rus Emerick from Schneider-Electric on verification of parts with Geomagic Qualify 2012 software for quality inspection and analysis so users can see even hidden surfaces and assure their geometric integrity.

Sculptures and other fine arts projects digitally designed in Freeform will also be among the work at the Contemporary Art Gallery at RAPID 2012, further illustrating new frontiers in design and additive manufacturing being forged in fine arts, as well as manufactured products.

Ping Fu, Geomagic’s CEO, states: “Digital reality is taking us to new places as a civilization. At Geomagic, we have concentrated on breaking down the barrier between the physical and the visual worlds – scanning physical 3D objects and turning them into virtual objects for design modification and quality analysis. Sensable’s products have a true 3D voxel engine, ideally suited for additive manufacturing, and provide the sense of touch. Together, our solutions can deliver the two most fundamental human senses to designers and manufacturers – the look and feel of an object – before it is actually produced.” She adds, “From scan to final product, our solutions improve the 3D design and manufacturing process by allowing product designers to create and manufacture products with natural user experiences, and unrivaled productivity”

RAPID attendees can attend a special workshop on reverse engineering and data capture featuring Geomagic products, hosted by Giles Gaskell from Wenzel America and co-presented by Srdjan Urosev with eQuality Tech on Tuesday, May 22 at the conference. Purchasers of Geomagic products can also take advantage of limited-time promotional pricing on product bundles for generating models used in reverse engineering, product design, rapid prototyping and analysis.

Geomagic is exhibiting in booths 200 and 320 at RAPID 2012, which takes place at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta.
