Spatial Energy Expands Distributor Relationship with Astrium GEO-Information Services to Include TerraSAR-X Radar Imagery

Boulder, Colorado (August 23, 2011) – Spatial Energy today announced the extension of its preferred partner relationship with Astrium GEO-Information Services to provide Astrium's high quality TerraSAR-X high resolution Radar Imagery and Elevation Data, including Digital Surface Models (DSM) and Digital Terrain Models (DTM) derived from TerraSAR-X data, to energy companies in North America.

Bud Pope, President, Spatial Energy said, “We’re excited to announce our ability to offer TerraSAR-X high resolution radar satellite imagery data to our oil & gas customers, in addition to SPOT satellite imagery and SPOTMaps products. This agreement adds high-value products derived from imagery – not just data -- and significantly enhances our ability to serve our customers’ needs for feature identification, change detection, coastal analysis, and other services used for exploration and production. Customers can acquire high resolution radar images, Digital Elevation Models and also land cover mapping at scales as large as 1:25k anywhere in the world, providing greater access to information in cloud-covered areas typically difficult to image using optical sensors. It also means more options for reliable surface monitoring".

"We're looking forward to adding Astrium's two new Pleiades high-resolution optical satellites which will provide additional 50 cm color data to our satellite and radar product inventory after launch in 2012," said Pope.

TerraSAR-X has been fully operational since early 2008. With its active antenna, the spacecraft acquires high-quality X-band radar images of the entire planet independent of weather conditions and illumination, and reliably provides radar imagery with a resolution of up to 1m and a unique geometric accuracy . TerraSAR-X also generates a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of unprecedented accuracy  and coverage with unique quality features such as vertical accuracy better than 5 m (relative) / 10 m (absolute) and no ground control information needed thanks to high geometric precision of sensors.

The radar image products can be selected from Astrium's archive of radar satellite data or custom specified in accordance with the individual needs and application requirements of each customer prior to their acquisition.
