North Bay Business Journal Recognizes Plastic Injection Molder For Leadership On Environmental Issues
SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 14, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — Wright Engineered Plastics, a San Francisco Bay Area plastic injection molder with expertise in manufacturing complex and sophisticated plastic components, announced today that it has been named a 'Top Manufacturer' by the North Bay Business Journal. The company was recognized in the Environmental category for its leadership in developing an environmental certification program for manufacturers that was adopted by the Association of Bay Area Governments.Wright Engineered Plastics, the first manufacturing company in the Bay Area to be certified as a Green Business and the recipient of a Best Practices award from the Business Environmental Alliance, has invested heavily in the greening of its facilities. The company annually recycles over 20,000 pounds of plastic, donates up to 30,000 pounds of scrap metal, and reuses over 10,000 pounds of industrial waste. Since 2008, it has decreased its solid waste output by 63%. The company has also dramatically reduced water and energy consumption by replacing outdated systems.
Wright has long been a leader on environmental issues in the community. CEO Barbara Roberts chaired a committee sanctioned by the Sonoma County Economic Council to develop a Green Certification program in collaboration with representatives of Pacific Gas & Electric and Sonoma County regulatory agencies for water, air quality and hazardous materials. The committee's recommendations were implemented in full by the Association of Bay Area Governments, which develops policies for all nine Bay Area counties.
"This award is a well-deserved honor," said Dick Herman, President, 101MFG, an industry group that promotes Northern California manufacturers. "Wright is a model for mid-sized manufacturers that wish to become more environmentally sound in their business practices."
"We are tremendously excited to be recognized for our efforts to be an environmentally responsible manufacturer," said Barbara Roberts, President and CEO, Wright Engineered Products. "We embraced sustainability because it was the right thing to do for the environment, our employees, and our community, but it's also had a positive effect on our business. Our customers love that they can choose a Green-certified, US-based manufacturing partner without significant impact on their cost."
Wright announced last week at Intersolar North America that it is actively seeking to engage clients in the solar industry. The company exhibited at Booth 7948 of the leading solar industry trade event, which takes place July 12-14, 2011 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.
