Registration Now Open to Ozri 2011

July 05, 2011 -- Registration to Ozri 2011 is now open, with the event featuring one of the strongest programs of presentations in its 25 year history.

Organised by leading GIS and location intelligence specialists Esri Australia, Ozri 2011 will bring together GIS professionals from the U.S.A., Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

For three days in October, the event will bring together some of the world’s most accomplished GIS experts, who will tackle a diverse range of topics and examine some of the most compelling GIS case studies to be undertaken in recent times.

Esri Australia Managing Director Brett Bundock said Ozri 2011 had one of the strongest line ups of presenters yet.

“Ozri is not only an important part of our own company’s history, but also of the history of the Australasian geospatial sector,” he said.

“For the past 25 years, Ozri has grown and evolved - keeping pace with industry needs and curiosities.

“The presentations chosen to be showcased at Ozri cover some of the most exciting geospatial projects of our time. They, along with our talented presenters, are what make the event so unique.”

Ozri 2011 Technical Director Kellie Lacey said this year’s program will comprise more than twenty presentations from Australia’s leading geoenabled businesses and government agencies and will examine some of the most compelling case studies ever undertaken in recent times.

“We’ll showcase the latest developments across the Esri software suite and explore: how to deploy enterprise-wide mobile solutions; how to store, manage and analyse imagery effectively; as well as how ArcGIS can be integrated into other business systems – such as SAP,” she said.

“On top of this, everyone’s favourites will be back with best practice sessions on web services, geodatabases, and cartography. Plus we have new sessions on Gov 2.0, social media maps and LiDAR.”

Traditionally, around 500 GIS professionals from government, the commercial sector and community groups attend the event.

The main theme for Ozri 2011 – Connect, Build, Optimise – seeks to both highlight the emergent role of location intelligence across an expanding range of industries, as well as bring into focus how GIS professionals from around the country are approaching the challenges accompanying this growing hunger for location based data.

The unique networking opportunities built into the conference program enables GIS users to connect with regional and international counterparts - providing them with the opportunity to share their technical knowledge and experiences.

Raymond De Lai from the Herbert Resource Information Centre (HRIC) attended and presented at last year’s Ozri – he described the event as an important learning and networking opportunity.

“The most valuable part of the experience was sharing our story and experience with other GIS professionals and building relationships with peers,” said Mr De Lai.

“Even now, we are still contacted by people who saw our presentation and are interested in our strategy and business analysis for our Enterprise GIS solution. The information sharing that comes out of Ozri is tremendously beneficial.”

With presentations and demonstrations from specialists across a range of industries, Ozri will enable attendees to acquire new knowledge and skills and forge new relationships with other GIS professionals.

At Ozri’s helm this year will be accomplished journalist and broadcaster Beverley O’Connor, who will serve as the event MC. Ms O’Connor will steer delegates through an exciting program featuring a few special inclusions aimed at marking the significance of the event’s 25th year.

Ozri 2011 runs from the 10 – 12 October, 2011 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Register now at www.esriaustralia.com.au/ozri
