Exprodat’s data directory nurtures new ArcGIS Desktop 10 users

June 29, 2011 -- Exprodat’s Team-GIS Directory was released today for the ArcGIS 10 platform, enhancing usability for ArcGIS Desktop users.  Team-GIS Directory can make ArcMap much easier for novice users to operate, increasing the rate of user adoption during ArcGIS Desktop implementation projects. For further information see www.exprodat.com/software/TGD.

Team-GIS Directory is an ArcMap extension combining an easy-to-use data catalogue with powerful search, preview and metadata visualization tools. It is designed to allow spatial data administrators to provide their desktop GIS users with structured access to enterprise GIS data, and to ensure that users can quickly locate data of interest to them and easily add it to their ArcMap project.

Exprodat’s Technical Director, Chris Jepps, says, “One of the strengths of Team-GIS Directory is that it allows GIS administrators to impose order on the often chaotic morass of GIS data common in many organizations, such as rasters, vector-based datasets and layer files.  This means that users don’t need to know where the data they are using is physically located, which can make the whole GIS experience much less scary, especially for new users. We find that this can lead to significantly increased take-up when rolling out desktop GIS technology.”

Exprodat’s Team-GIS product suite is made up of a number of extensions to Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop that provide ‘out-of-the-box’ functionality designed specifically for the needs of the petroleum sector. Team-GIS software is data independent and allows oil and gas companies to integrate vendor data with in-house datasets for use in GIS-based spatial analysis in order to make better decisions, manage risk and reduce technical uncertainty.
