Siemens Keynote Sponsor of Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon

Largest Single Day of Volunteerism in the City

CHICAGO, June 10, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — For the sixth consecutive year, Siemens is the keynote sponsor of Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the not-for-profit's single-day volunteer event June 11th that puts approximately 6,000 people to work on projects throughout the city, painting and improving Chicago Public Schools. Siemens' ongoing financial commitment has been supported by the efforts of its employees who, since 2003, have participated in this event contributing more than 9,000 hours of service under the Siemens Caring Hands banner, the company's community service and employee volunteer program.

According to Chicago Cares executive director Bridget Altenburg, "Siemens' financial contributions, as well as its employees' participation over the years have made an incredible impact -- not only by fielding the event, but also by supporting our mission of putting volunteers, ready to serve their communities, into every corner of the city. We would not be here if it weren't for Siemens continued and generous support."

The motivation to serve and volunteer in the communities where Siemens' employees live and work is a strong and common ethic -- one that is revealed by the thousands of hours its employees contribute each year to hundreds of projects involving well known organizations including the American Cancer Society, Hope for the Warriors, American Heart Association, Rebuilding America, Habitat for Humanity, and many other United Way and local community organizations.

"I am proud that Siemens is playing a lead role in the Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon again as we truly strive to be a part of something larger, something that is not only central to the values we hold in common as company, but also as individuals," says Andreas Schierenbeck, president, Building Technologies Division, Siemens Industry, Inc. "I think it is something we share with the thousands of volunteers that are serving today and with those who work hard every day to sustain the city's communities and continue to make Chicago a great place to work and live."
