Weather Underground Adds Historical Tornado Videos on Its Interactive Tornado Map

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Apr 21, 2011 -- Weather Underground, the world's first online weather service, announced today the addition of historical tornado videos, hosted by YouTube, on its interactive tornado map. Launched in 2007, the tornado map has become a popular resource for weather enthusiasts and storm chasers alike. The new video feature provides users with additional insight and dramatic footage into past U.S. tornadoes.

Powered by Google Maps, the map serves as an online archive of recent and historical tornadoes, and provides detailed information of storm reports, photos and animated radar loops of tornadoes across the U.S. Searching recent or historical tornado activity or by entering a specific U.S. location, users may click upon the tornado icon and receive detailed information about the storm, now including the new video feature for most tornadoes.

"At Weather Underground we focus on developing specialized features that deliver unique insights into weather reporting," said Alan Steremberg, President and co-founder of Weather Underground. "The addition of this tornado video feature further establishes our tornado section as the most comprehensive and dynamic archive of tornado activity."

Dr. Jeff Masters, Director of Meteorology and author of a widely read weather blog on wunderground.com consistently updates users with in-depth information on current storm activity. Dr. Masters' latest blog post, entitled "Tornadoes, huge hail pound the Midwest, but bring little Texas drought relief," discusses the vast amount of recent tornado activity and roaring storms through the Midwest this week. Dr. Masters' blog and analysis have become a resource that users and news media outlets depend upon all year round.

In addition, Weather Underground has a comprehensive tornado education section to provide background on tornadoes and significant storms, as well as tips on storm safety.
