Sayata Ghose is a senior research scientist with the National Institute of Aerospace and a resident researcher with the Advanced Materials and Processing Branch at NASA Langley. She joins 11 other recipients of this year's honor, which recognizes young manufacturing practitioners who have made exemplary contributions and achievements in the manufacturing industry.

Ghose earned her PhD from the School of Polymer Science & Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron in 2004 and was awarded an internationally competitive research associateship from the National Research Council to conduct research at NASA. Ghose's work in the field of polymer processing has ranged from elastomers to nanocomposites. Her most recent work has focused on autoclave-free manufacturing processes for high-temperature matrix resins for composite structures on aerospace vehicles including rockets and supersonic aircraft.

Ghose is the author or coauthor of 20 refereed journal articles with more than 35 conference proceedings and ~100 citations. She also holds one U.S. patent and has four patent applications.

Paul Bradley, 2011 SME President said, "The industry is already experiencing a skilled workforce shortage that is only going to get worse as millions of baby boomers retire. We hope that recognizing such young, bright, talented engineers will inspire others to consider manufacturing as a promising career choice."
