Rolta Awarded Nationwide Orthophoto/Mapping Project for nation of Oman

Mumbai - February 2, 2011 - Rolta today announced that it has been awarded the prestigious Mapping contract by Oman’s Supreme Committee for Town Planning (“SCTP”) in cooperation with the National Survey Authority (“NSA”) after a global bidding process.

This project, valued at over $8M (Rs 38 Cr), entails large-scale digital topographic mapping to create a “Nationwide Orthophoto Coverage and Data Management System” for the Sultanate of Oman. This includes creation of Digital Elevation Models, Contour Lines, Hydro and Transport Networks, and Orthophotos covering the entire Sultanate of Oman. Rolta’s scope of work comprises the end-to-end workflow, including acquisition of aerial photography, establishment of a network of over 400 permanent ground control points through GPS surveys, aerial triangulation, automated and interactive photogrammetric mapping, and data-modeling. The processed digital map data will be put through rigorous quality checks before being loaded into a nationwide seamless database where it will be managed with Rolta’s Geospatial FusionTM technology. Geospatial Fusion is an enterprise-level application framework that enables integration of disparate sources of geospatial and non-spatial data, and interfaces readily with third party application software to create a comprehensive solution that will be configured to suit the specific needs of SCTP/NSA.

This award recognizes Rolta’s strong track record in leading and managing large projects in the geospatial space, and its unique ability to provide domain expertise and deliver sophisticated technology solutions.

“Oman has embarked upon an ambitious program to adopt world-class land use, land development and town planning practices,” said Eng. Qasim Al-Nabhani, GIS Director General of SCTP of the Sultanate of Oman. “Incorporation of sophisticated geospatial content and software tools for planning and asset management is an essential part of this program. Rolta was selected because of its experience, and the technologies that it will harness to meet the challenges posed by the complexities and aggressive schedules for this project,” he added.

Mr. K.K. Singh, Chairman and CEO of Rolta said, “We are very pleased to have been selected for this prestigious project. Oman is a leader in adopting modern technologies for improving their infrastructure planning and management. We are privileged to be able to contribute to their initiatives, and are excited about deploying some of our software products for applications in such projects of national importance.”
