HARRISBURG, Pa. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 11, 2011 — Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex: BKR), has been selected as Grand Award winner by the Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors (MAPPS) in its 4th Annual Geospatial Products and Services Excellence Awards competition. The award was presented to Baker at the MAPPS Fall Policy Conference on November 17 in Kissimmee, Florida, for its performance on the U.S. Bureau of Census - Accurate Coordinate Datasets Collection (ACDC) project.
Baker’s Aaron Morris, project manager, said, “The ACDC project represents the single largest gathering of survey-quality control point data using GPS in the Bureau’s history. The project provided an opportunity for Baker to showcase its signature geospatial capabilities and technical expertise.”
The ACDC project provided spatially accurate ground control throughout the entire United States and Territories. Collected by Baker’s teams over a four-year period, the data is used to perform qualitative assessments on current and future-submitted geographic information datasets as part of the Bureau’s nationwide accuracy improvement initiative.
The Bureau’s Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR), J. David Bush, added, “Baker met all of the Census Bureau’s technical expectations. A testament to superior project management, the quality and timeliness of their work always far exceeded the Census Bureau's expectations.”
