IMAGINiT Technologies Launches Scan to BIM™ Software for Autodesk Revit Platform

First Revit Add-On To Enable Visualization and Interaction with 3D Laser Scans Directly in Autodesk Revit Software

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 11, 2010 — Rand Worldwide (OTCBB: AVSO), a global leader in providing technology solutions to organizations with engineering design and information technology requirements, announced that its IMAGINiT Technologies division launched their Scan to BIM™ ( www.avatech.com/scantobim) software for the Autodesk Revit platform. Purpose built for 3D laser scanning service providers and architecture, engineering and construction firms, Scan to BIM radically improves workflow and increases building information modeling (BIM) accuracy while saving time for projects adapting existing structures for new uses.

“Scan to BIM addresses an expanding market opportunity for 3D laser scanning and building information modeling,” says Marc Dulude, CEO, Rand Worldwide. “The economic climate, coupled with sustainable focused legislation has ignited a dramatic increase in renovation and reuse of existing buildings around the globe. Cost effective as-built data acquisition is vital to planning and design for firms updating existing infrastructure. Scan to BIM makes acquiring and importing this critical information a great deal easier and faster.”

Engineered by the same software developers and industry experts who created Avatech Utilities for Revit ( www.avatech.com/revitutilities), Scan to BIM is designed specifically for the Autodesk Revit 2011 platform (Architecture, Structure and MEP) with specific capabilities for architects and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers.

"3D laser scanning has become an important resource for our design and construction customers to capture existing conditions prior to renovation and retrofit, as well as during new projects for interdependent trades,” said Anthony Hauck, Revit Senior Product Line Manager at Autodesk, Inc. “We’re excited to see IMAGINiT take full advantage of the Revit API to integrate reality capture into the Revit platform.”

Features Bring New Opportunities

For the first time, Scan to BIM allows Autodesk Revit users to import and work with critical data from 3D scanners using point cloud industry standard formats. Scan to BIM enables users to:

  • Create native Revit elements, including walls, windows and pipes, directly from a point cloud;
  • Import laser-scanned point clouds directly into Revit, eliminating the laborious steps associated with bringing useful, clean point clouds into Revit;
  • Visualize the point cloud inside Revit based on color, intensity or elevation;
  • Analyze discrepancies by comparing the Revit model against the point cloud;
  • Import industry standard file formats, and more.

“The process of creating 3D building information models from point cloud data used to be tedious, requiring us to use multiple software products and workflows,” says Clair VanderZwaag, HDS Manager, Nederveld Inc. “The Scan to BIM product solves this problem by enabling us to visualize and create geometry directly inside Revit. As a result, we are realizing greater efficiencies in production time and accuracy.”

Availability & Pricing

Scan to BIM is priced at US$2,495 per seat with an optional maintenance subscription covering technical support and future upgrades at $495 per seat, per year.
