Regional Idaho and Florida Governments Automate Their Futures With Accela Software

SAN RAMON, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 19, 2010 -- Accela, Inc. today announced that Jackson County, Fla., and the city of Meridian, Idaho, plan to deploy Accela's government software solutions to streamline critical government services and provide easy 24/7 access for the citizens and businesses who rely on them. Both governments have procured Accela Automation® Web-based software through Accela's tailored pricing options for jurisdictions with populations of less than 150,000. The deployments are anticipated to go live during the spring of 2011.

The population of Meridian, a suburb of state capital Boise, has soared during the past two decades -- leaping from barely 10,000 in 1990 to over 75,000 today, and positioning Meridian as Idaho's third-largest city. To ensure that government services can adapt to the rapidly evolving needs of this burgeoning community, Meridian sought an enterprise solution to automate processes for permitting, planning, licensing and code enforcement across several departments. The city also wanted to empower its workforce of inspectors and investigators with tools to seamlessly access, share and update information from the back office and the field. Using Accela Automation's mobility, GIS mapping and citizen access options, Meridian will be able to accomplish its service objectives. The new system will also enable various city departments to share new and historical information about permits, applications and other records, while allowing citizens to apply, pay for and track their own applications online.

Unlike Meridian, Jackson County, Fla., has experienced modest growth in recent years, and its population of over 50,000 is more than 80 percent rural. But like nearly all governments today, Jackson County has been examining ways to reduce operational costs, improve efficiencies, and facilitate a more business-friendly permitting process. The county's Building Department will deploy Accela Automation specifically to manage permitting, planning and zoning issues, and will also leverage Accela's mobility, GIS and citizen access tools.

"With constant pressure to deliver better service within tighter budgets, it's vital for regional governments of all types and sizes to be able to procure and implement advanced technology that reduces paperwork, automates workflow, and improves access to information for their employees, local businesses and the public," said Accela CEO and President, Maury Blackman. "Accela is committed to helping our government customers adapt and thrive amid today's challenges and changes."

Software Solutions to Support Government Goals
Accela Automation provides governments of all kinds with a complete solution for automating critical tasks associated with permitting, licensing, code enforcement, community development and planning, inspections and investigations, infrastructure asset management, emergency response, and more. The software utilizes an open architecture and a centralized database, allowing information to be easily accessed across departments. Both Jackson County and Meridian will leverage a complement of Accela Automation tools to achieve their goals.

  • Accela GIS™ offers office and field-based teams advanced mapping capability in a rich user interface, allowing users to access and share data from agency or Bing maps. Accela GIS supports Esri's ArcGIS Server and integrates with an agency's existing GIS systems to provide a geographic view of all land-use, zoning, and infrastructure information associated with a parcel, permit, inspection or plan.

  • Accela Mobile Office™ provides field-based government workers with the access to the same data, case histories, and maps as back-office staff -- eliminating the need for pen-and-paper recording or multiple office visits for data entry. Information can be modified in real-time from the field or synchronized later if wireless connectivity is lacking.

  • Accela Citizen Access™ allows builders, contractors and developers to apply and pay for all their needed permits via a single online shopping cart from home or office, and even to access their permits and applications from a smartphone. Inspections can be coordinated or documentation attached for government inspectors -- all in the same, intuitive user interface they would experience in their home or office. Accela Citizen Access is also compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and has been enhanced to fully support the use of assistive technologies, enabling public users with sight impairments to benefit from 24/7 access.
