Draftware Releases DV-CADDS Reader 2.0

Vevay, Indiana, October 4, 2010 - Draftware Inc announced today the release of DV-CADDS Reader 2.0, a software development API for reading CADDS 4X and CADDS 5 designs. The product allows software developers to directly support CADDS in their CAD systems, viewers, translators, and API products.  Applications using the API do not require CADDS licenses to read CADDS.

"The first release of this API was well received by our software developer customers," explains Steve Huffman, General Manager at Draftware. "Version 2.0 supports 64-bit Windows application development, with more sample projects and C++ compiler options."

"CAD vendors clamor to support the popular CAD formats, but they often forget about users with legacy CAD data," said Barbara Fluegeman, Marketing Manager at Draftware. "CADDS was a popular design system for decades among fortune 500 companies.  Significant amounts of CADDS data is still out there, especially in the aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding industries.  Our API lets developers reach those customers by supporting CADDS in their products."

Along with the API, developers receive a limited right-to-use license of the DraftView-CADDS Viewer for development purposes, at no cost. "We bundle our CADDS viewer product as part of the library. The viewer allows developers to verify and interrogate CADDS parts visually, while debugging their application," said Huffman.

DV-CADDS Reader supports:

  • Single and Double precision CADDS parts
  • Explicit entities (3D Model, 2D Draw and Detail mode)
  • Parametric entities
  • Hidden Line Removal
  • 3D Model View definitions
  • Model View entity control (per layer, per view, HLR, etc.)
  • All 30 standard CADDS text fonts (including Kanji)
  • Text font compiler for supporting custom fonts
  • NFigures and SFigures
  • Extract CAMU Assembly components
  • CADDS 3 (Revision 8 and higher)
  • All CADDS 4X Revisions
  • All CADDS 5 and CADDS 5i®  Revisions
  • Win32 and x64 development platforms

Pricing

DV-CADDS Reader is available for evaluation as a no-cost download. "In order to encourage developers to try our API, we are offering it without up-front costs," explained Huffman. "After a customer has incorporated the reader into their product, and is satisfied with the results, we then set up a licensing fee that works best for them."

Availability

The DV-CADDS Reader API is immediately available to developers using Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008 or Microsoft Visual C/C++ 6.0. The libraries can be downloaded from Draftware Inc at http://www.draftware.com/dv-cadds
