NAVTEQ Agreement with NGA Extends Access to Map Data for State and Local Entities

Expanded relationship supports Department of Homeland Security Mission

Chicago, IL – September 28, 2010 – NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announces that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HSIP) has expanded its agreement with NAVTEQ to permit State government entities designated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) direct download access to NAVTEQ data.

This agreement enables standardized use of NAVTEQ® map data across federal and state government entities in support of the DHS mission. Federal and state government entities that will benefit from this agreement include State Fusion Centers, State Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), State GIS Coordinators, State National Guard Joint Operations Centers, and State Emergency Management Coordinators.

“By having download access of the NAVTEQ map, Federal and State homeland security entities now have a common foundation for DHS mission situation awareness, operations and emergency response planning” said Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. “Our focus continues to be on the quality, accuracy and freshness of the data, all critical requirements to effectively support DHS mission requirements".

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA develops imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U.S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation. The NGA plays a central role in supporting emergency prevention, preparedness and response capabilities of United States government departments and agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the State and Local first responder community, as well as working with government entities in Canada and Mexico to coordinate and support emergency management across borders.

In 2002, the Homeland Security Infrastructure Protection (HSIP) Program was created as a collaborative project between NGA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). HSIP provides government officials with information necessary to support the response and recovery efforts for natural and man-made disasters.
