MSC.Software Joins European Aeronautics R&D Project CRESCENDO

SANTA ANA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Aug 04, 2010 -- MSC.Software, the leader in multidiscipline simulation solutions that accelerate product innovation, today announced that MSC.Software will participate in a project coordinated by Airbus called CRESCENDO, which stands for Collaborative & Robust Engineering using Simulation Capability Enabling Next Design Optimization.

The project focuses on the development of what is referred to as the Behavioural Digital Aircraft (BDA). The BDA can be viewed as a federated system that will comprise all the modeling and simulation capabilities and services required to enable a more complete, mature and reliable definition of the behavioural, functional and operational aspects of an aircraft and constituent systems. The project will move beyond modeling and simulating of parts to simulating the complete aircraft and its overall behavior.

The ambition of the CRESCENDO consortium is to make a step change in the way that modeling and simulation activities are carried out, by multidisciplinary teams working as part of a collaborative enterprise. This will accelerate development of new aeronautical products in a more cost and time efficient manner.

"We are very proud to be a member of CRESCENDO," says Albrecht Pfaff, Vice President MSC.Software, SimManager Business Unit. "In VIVACE, a previously successful aeronautics research project, we developed the EDM Framework (Engineering Data Management) based on SimManager. As part of CRESCENDO, we will engage with leading European aerospace organizations to develop a Collaboration Platform for Aerospace Engineering and Simulation."

SimManager, selected to support the Simulation Data & Process Management Backbone in CRESCENDO'S Model Store and Simulation Factory is a proven technology which is already used by large Aerospace companies all over the world. The CRESCENDO project is co-funded by the European Commission under Grant Agreement n° 234344 within the 7th Framework Program (FP7/2007-2013).
