Bombardier and the National Research Council Canada Strengthen Collaboration on Technology Development

FARNBOROUGH, UNITED KINGDOM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jul 21, 2010 -- Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Research Council Canada (NRC) on cooperation for research and development initiatives.

At the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow, Guy C. Hachey, President and Chief Operating Officer, Bombardier Aerospace, and John R. MacDougall, President, NRC, signed an MOU that outlined the framework for future collaboration between Bombardier and NRC on the development of technologies, applicable to new aircraft programs.

"Canada's aerospace industry is home to a wealth of engineering knowledge, and this expression of our alliance with Canada's NRC is an important step in the development of innovative solutions that will increase Bombardier's overall competitiveness," said Mr. Hachey. "Bombardier is committed to designing the most efficient aircraft with a reduced environmental footprint, and the aviation industry is committed to achieving carbon-neutral growth in 2020 and a 50% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2050. This collaboration with NRC will help Bombardier contribute to these industry goals."

"We believe this MOU between NRC and Bombardier Aerospace will help Canadian companies grow and become more globally competitive," said Mr. McDougall. "It will strengthen the long-standing collaborative relationship between our organizations, which will result in more innovative technology solutions for the aerospace industry. It will also lead to significant business opportunities among the many smaller suppliers who support the larger players in the industry and who need to remain competitive on a global scale."

Bombardier and NRC have previously collaborated on multiple projects: aerodynamic studies, including wind tunnel testing, for several Bombardier aircraft concepts, and the development of advanced manufacturing methods, including automated fabrication of composite aircraft fuselages. Today's MOU stands to reinforce this mutually beneficial relationship and proposes a governance model that will greatly facilitate future collaborations.
