2D DCM and PGM at the Heart of a New Geometry Engine in Cabinet Vision for Woodworking Professionals
PLANO, Texas — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 14, 2010 — Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and Planit Solutions, Inc. a subsidiary of Planit Holdings Ltd, a leading provider of CAD/CAM software products, today announced the license and integration of two D-Cubed™ software components into Planit’s Cabinet Vision® products.
Planit is using the D-Cubed 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager ( 2D DCM), the industry’s most widely used geometric constraint solver, and the D-Cubed Profile Geometry Manager ( PGM), in the core geometry engine that serves as the foundation of its Cabinet Vision product line. The 2D DCM powers the 2D parametric design functionality in a wide range of CAD, CAM and CAE products. The PGM can extend the capabilities of a 2D DCM integration by generating 2D offset profiles and by supporting a range of profile based constraints, such as area and perimeter length, all integrated with the 2D DCM’s geometric constraint solving when required.
A key driver in the commercial cabinet making industry is the need to provide the customer with a high level of customization, while manufacturing products cost-effectively, using standard designs and parts as much as possible. This translates into a market requirement for specialist CAD software that can automate significant parts of the design process while freeing the user to create the designs they desire. Planit’s Cabinet Vision, which includes a range of parametric 3D CAD/CAM solutions for woodworking professionals, together with the D-Cubed 2D DCM and PGM components are helping Planit to meet these requirements by combining parametric solving with the comprehensive 2D profile offsetting functions that the PGM provides.
“Within the Planit Group we have used the D-Cubed components in our EdgeCAM, AlphaCAM and Radan product lines to great effect over many years, so we are confident of the high standard of product quality and technical support from Siemens PLM Software,” said Russell Franks, chief technical officer of Planit. “The complementary functionality provided by the D-Cubed PGM was further justification for selecting the 2D DCM. No other option offered such a complete package of technology and quality, backed by the confidence derived from such a long and successful business relationship.”
“Cabinet Vision is the latest of many CAD/CAM products into which the D-Cubed geometric constraint solving components have been integrated since we acquired the D-Cubed company back in 2004,” said Joan Hirsch, vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “The continuing market leadership of the D-Cubed constraint solvers is testament to the trust the market has placed in our long-term commitment to offer unrivalled value to our customers. We are delighted that the 2D DCM and PGM are now helping to meet the needs of woodworking professionals through their deployment in Cabinet Vision.”
