EDSA Launches New Paladin DesignBase 3.1 Power Systems CAD Modeling Platform

Unveils New Buyer Incentives, Including First-Ever Software “Leasing” Program

SAN DIEGO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 12, 2010 — EDSA ( www.edsa.com), the leading developer of power analytics solutions for the design, testing, and management of complex electrical power systems, today unveiled an enhanced version of its industry-leading power systems modeling package, Paladin DesignBase. The Company also announced that qualified power systems engineers can take advantage of a suite of new promotional incentives such as 2-for-1 licensing, extended trial periods and a new “Project Pricing” offer that enables users to “lease” Paladin DesignBase 3.1 with only a modest up-front investment.

Paladin DesignBase 3.1 is an enhanced version of the popular 3.0 version released in February. The new release incorporates a wide range of new features and functions that greatly simplify – and thus, accelerate – the process of designing and optimizing models of complex electrical power infrastructure before it is constructed. In addition, EDSA continues to enhance Paladin DesignBase in ways that facilitate the redeployment of Paladin DesignBase models in “live” operations, using the Company’s Paladin® Live facility management and predictive optimization platform. This patented, design-through-deployment capability is exclusive to the Paladin family, and has been embraced by some of the largest commercial and government mission-critical facility operators in the world.

“The synergy between Paladin DesignBase and Paladin Live is revolutionizing the power systems CAD industry. We’ve seen a surge in new orders from mission-critical design firms switching from competing software platforms to Paladin DesignBase, because their end-user customers are specifying that CAD models be delivered in the Paladin DesignBase format in order to immediately deploy Paladin Live in their finished facilities,” said Mark A. Ascolese, Chairman and CEO of EDSA. “The rest of the mission-critical facility business is learning what EDSA users have known for a long time: no other power systems CAD platform can produce a CAD model that is ready-for-deployment like Paladin DesignBase.”

Enhanced Paladin DesignBase-to-Paladin Live deployment features

As with all new releases of Paladin DesignBase, EDSA has invested enormous development effort into increasing the richness of data that can be encoded in every Paladin DesignBase model – which, in turn, allows models to be quickly redeployed as part of live operations using Paladin Live.

“Paladin DesignBase is the only power systems CAD modeler that codifies design data at the level of detail necessary to deploy power analytics for the automated management of a modern, mission-critical facility,” said Kevin Meagher, chief technology officer of EDSA. “Other power systems modelers are adequate rendering tools, but they simply cannot produce power systems models that are sufficiently robust for managing a demanding, real-world environment. By switching to Paladin DesignBase, design firms are able to create models that are ‘Perfect on Paper’ and ready for immediate re-deployment.”

New Modeling Features and Functions

Paladin DesignBase 3.1 incorporates dozens of new features to enhance user productivity for power systems modeling and optimization, which are detailed on the EDSA Website. The most significant of these new features include:

  1. New arc flash scenario comparison report:
    • New reports with worst-case arc flash results throughout all scenarios
  2. New equipment catalogs:
    • Predetermined length of branches, additional plugs on buses, enabled bus to branch connection
    • Significantly increased speed of building one-line diagrams
  3. Many additional user productivity functions including:
    • New automatic PDC curve labeling
    • Enhanced export/import to Microsoft Excel® with additional fields
    • New utility short circuit impedance display in ohms

New Buyer Incentives

To make power systems engineers’ migration to Paladin DesignBase 3.1 even more attractive, EDSA also announced three promotional incentives:

  • Effective immediately, the Company is making its Paladin DesignBase 3.1 platform available on “Project Pricing” basis, allowing new users to acquire access to the software on a “leased” basis, and eliminating the up-front cost of traditional software licensing. As a result, instead of purchasing software outright, users have the option of making a 30 percent down payment on the software at the beginning of a project, with no other payments due for six months. This enables on-staff corporate users to “lease” Paladin DesignBase 3.1 in a manner that syncs with their departmental budgets, while allowing engineering firms to get started on client projects immediately, and pay for their use of Paladin DesignBase 3.1 as they recoup payment from their client.
  • Starting July 12, EDSA will – for 30 days – offer 2-for-1 licenses for Paladin DesignBase 3.1, providing a free second license for each licensed purchased. This free license can be used by a second member of the design team, or on an individual user’s second computer – such as a personal notebook computer in addition to his or her desktop system.
  • In addition, during that same 30-day timeframe, EDSA is extending the free trial period for Paladin DesignBase 3.1 from 14 days to 30 days; this extended time period is necessary to provide users with the time necessary to “test drive” the full range of features in the 48-program Paladin DesignBase suite, prior to purchasing.
