NAVTEQ Expands Agreement with National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)

Agreement Provides State and Local Viewing of NAVTEQ Data under the Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HSIP)

Reston, VA — May 18, 2010 — NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announces at the 2010 USGIF Tech Days Conference (NAVTEQ Booth #307) that their agreement with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HISP) has been extended to provide State and Local Homeland Security Responders access to NGA HSIP applications using NAVTEQ® map data.

The expanded agreement enables “view access” for State and Local governments, as well as emergency response communities, so that Federal and State homeland security entities have a common foundation for situation awareness, operations and emergency response planning. By having a common foundation, operations and requirements can be efficiently coordinated and assessed by government officials.

"The exceptionally high level of accuracy of the NAVTEQ map as well as NAVTEQ’s proven ability to keep the data fresh and up-to-date makes it a critical core component of the HSIP Gold program,” said Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ “Extending access to State and Local government enables a standardized map view and common operating picture for more efficient emergency response."

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA develops imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U.S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation. The NGA plays a central role in supporting emergency prevention, preparedness and response capabilities of United States government departments and agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the State and Local first responder community, as well as working with government entities in Canada and Mexico to coordinate and support emergency management across borders.

In 2002, the Homeland Security Infrastructure Protection (HSIP) Program was created as a collaborative project between NGA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). HSIP provides government officials with information necessary to support the response and recovery efforts for natural and man-made disasters.
