eSpatial’s Web GIS Software is selected by City of Tampa to deliver City Wide Online Mapping & Analysis

Tampa’s new web mapping solution will be delivered using eSpatial’s latest iSMART® Web GIS (Geographical Information System) designed specifically to meet the needs of Local Government customers

May 03, 2010 — Booth #407, GITA Conference & Expo., Phoenix, Az, USA. eSpatial, the global web GIS company today announced that the City of Tampa, Florida, USA, has chosen eSpatial’s Web GIS as a primary component in its comprehensive, city-wide online mapping and analysis solution. Tampa will be the first in the USA to go live with eSpatial’s latest iSMART® Web GIS solution specifically tailored to the needs of Local Government customers

eSpatial’s Web GIS solution will make spatial data and analysis available across the City through a standard web browser interface that supports the city’s 35-plus departments. The web mapping and geographic business intelligence capabilities in eSpatial’s Web GIS will enhance the city’s business processes while facilitating data sharing and interoperability and significantly reducing the complexity and cost of deploying an enterprise-wide, web-services based GIS solution. The deployment of eSpatial’s web GIS supports Tampa’s strategy to rationalize the cost of traditional GIS products, to standardize their geospatial data repository on Oracle’s spatial database platform and to deliver web-based applications, thereby minimizing the substantial cost associated with licensing and maintaining traditional desktop GIS platforms.

eSpatial’s Web GIS enables the delivery of location information internally throughout government departments, as well as to the general public, delivering increased internal efficiency and online public service delivery, as well as helping achieve local government business goals such as:

  • Making consistent, geospatial data, metadata and analytical tools accessible to more enterprise users
  • Addressing the City of Tampa’s need for collaboration and sharing of location-centric information
  • Managing data and services centrally for both internal and external users
  • Addressing legal requirements and the public’s need for government transparency and accountability
  • Leveraging and extending the benefits of existing investments in GIS
  • Reducing the cost and complexity associated with implementing traditional GIS functionality

Philip O’Doherty, eSpatial CEO, “eSpatial is delighted to announce The City of Tampa as its first customer to use our latest iSMART Web GIS Local government solution and we’re looking forward to delivering a web based solution that will deliver business benefits such as increased internal access and efficiency as well as enhanced customer satisfaction.”

Dr. Robert Austin, Enterprise Applications Integration Manager at the City of Tampa, commented, “We’re excited about the capabilities inherent in eSpatial’s Web GIS solution and we are looking forward to rolling out applications that are supported by a centrally-managed Oracle data repository. More importantly, the solution will improve internal processes, enhance our public service delivery and reduce application development time. The significant cost savings that we have identified are also very welcome, especially in these times of budget cuts and constraints.”
