RICHMOND, VA – April 28, 2010 – WetCollect, LLC, an environmental and enterprise geospatial products and services company, is pleased to announce the launch of WetCollect™, a state-of-the-art mobile application which uses Windows Mobile technology to facilitate collection and processing of wetland delineation field data.
Environmental professionals are frequently required to perform wetland delineations as part of a due diligence or site planning process. During this process, field data on vegetation, hydrology and soils is collected per the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual and subsequent Regional Supplements. This data is often collected through handwritten field notes and then manually entered into the appropriate data form on a computer before being printed out for submission to the USACE with the wetland delineation package in order to obtain a Jurisdictional Determination (JD). Many consultants have been utilizing GPS units to locate wetland flags for mapping purposes for years which presented the opportunity to develop an innovative mobile software application capable of improving efficiency across the industry. WetCollect was developed through a natural collaboration between the environmental and geospatial professionals.
WetCollect is a software as a service that will run on any device that operates on a Windows Mobile platform. It permits the user to collect soils, hydrology and vegetation data in the field in a digital format which corresponds to the correct USACE Regional Supplement data form. By running WetCollect on a GPS unit, the proper Regional Supplement is automatically selected based on the user’s location, utilizing the lat/long coordinates of the site. WetCollect contains a complete plant dictionary created from USFWS and USDA plant lists for all regions, which is also automatically tailored to the user’s current location. This plant dictionary is searchable by both common and scientific name and provides the species’ indicator status within the identified Region. Upon returning to the office, the completed forms are easily uploaded to a secure website where the user has the ability to save the forms to his or her computer in PDF format, email the document or print the completed forms for submittal with a JD package.
WetCollect is proud to be a Trimble Business Partner and can offer the WetCollect software as a bundle with Trimble GPS handhelds. When WetCollect is utilized with a GPS unit, the location of data stations can be logged and seamlessly imported as points into ArcGIS, AutoCad or other map production software. Furthermore, when WetCollect is combined with Trimble’s TerraSync or other mobile mapping software, waypoints, wetland flags and other site data can also be easily collected for import into wetland mapping, further increasing work efficiency.
