Topcon's IP-S2, 'Fast GIS data collection'

PORTLAND, Ore. and SEATTLE, March 29 — (PRNewswire) — The PPI Group announced today it has added Topcon's vehicle–mounted, mobile 3D precision mobile mapping and survey system to its offerings for the Infrastructure and Mapping industry. Topcon, a leader in the manufacturing of cutting edge survey solutions, released the IP-S2 to overcome the challenges of mapping linear features to a high level of accuracy.

The IP-S2 obtains accurate vehicle positions using three technologies: a dual frequency GNSS receiver establishes a geospatial position; an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) provides vehicle altitude; and a connection to the vehicle CAN bus or external wheel encoders obtain odometry information. All of these technologies together in one system make for a highly accurate 3D position for the vehicle in locations where satellite signals can be blocked by obstructions.
