New ISO standards refine previous criteria and reflect current business environment

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 9 — (PRNewswire) — Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, geospatial, engineering, and program management solutions, today announced the company's compliance with the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO's) current quality management standards. Following an independent recertification audit that found zero non-compliance, Avineon is now registered as ISO 9001:2008 compliant. The scope of registration includes: IT Services: Software/Systems Design, Development and Integration; CAD/GIS Development; and Engineering Services. Avineon had previously been registered compliant to earlier versions of the ISO 9001 standard since 1999.

ISO is the world's largest developer and publisher of international standards. While ISO 9001:2000 enabled organizations to develop a secure and efficient process approach to quality management, ISO 9001:2008 refines those standards and increases their relevance to today's business environment. For instance, new to ISO 9001:2008 is the inclusion of outsourced processes as part of an organization's quality management system (QMS), and Avineon enhanced its QMS to address these requirements.

News of Avineon's upgrade to ISO 9001:2008 comes shortly after Avineon's re-assessment as a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3 company. Developed by a group of industry and government experts, along with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University, CMMI guides development and process improvements throughout an organization.
