New H2ONET Pressure Zone Management Solution Helps Water Utilities Optimize Capital Planning and Operational Efficiency

Advanced Master Planning Application Gives AutoCAD® Users More Power and Automation to Delineate, Analyze and Develop Hydraulic Schematics for Complex Multi-Pressure Zone Systems

Broomfield, Colorado USA, January 13, 2010 – MWH Soft, a leading global innovator of wet infrastructure modeling and simulation software and technologies, today announced the worldwide release of H2ONET PZM (Pressure Zone Manager) for power AutoCAD® (Autodesk, San Rafael, CA) users. The state-of-the-art solution focuses on a critical step in developing a sound Capital Improvement Program: analyzing, simplifying, and summarizing pertinent hydraulic information for each pressure zone in a water distribution system model. The introduction underscores MWH Soft’s determination to be the leading provider of infrastructure modeling solutions for professional engineers working in the powerful AutoCAD® environment.

This indispensable new water master planning tool greatly accelerates hydraulic diagram design of existing and proposed pressure zones and helps ensure accuracy on projects subject to frequent updates and revisions. Built atop AutoCAD® 2010, the world’s leading CAD platform, H2ONET PZM seamlessly integrates advanced dynamic water network modeling with sophisticated graph-theoretical algorithms to help water utilities and consulting engineering firms handle a number of critical tasks. They include development of rigorous water distribution system models; accurate delineation of pressure zone boundaries; and speedy generation of comprehensive pressure zone hydraulic schematics, including summaries of in/out flows through pumps, control valves, check valves, storage tanks and reservoirs.

These capabilities not only make water distribution system master planning easier, faster and more reliable; they also enable users to perform quality assurance and control during the model development stage, prior to performing any rigorous evaluations. Water utilities can now more effectively leverage the full power of network modeling along with the tremendous expertise of the engineers who contribute to the process. The ultimate result is improved work experience, capital planning and operational efficiency.

H2ONET PZM automatically identifies and delineates each pressure zone based on its “ending” elements, such as tanks, pumps, control valves, check valves, closed pipes, and reservoirs. This helps ensure that the network model accurately reflects actual system performance and operation. The program then produces a schematic for each pressure zone, with the maximum and minimum elevations defined by tank level, junction, pump, control valve, closed pipe, and check valve elevation information. Summary data include the flow and pressure for each hydraulic element along with maximum and minimum data for pressure, hydraulic grade line, water quality, flow, velocity, head loss and hydraulic slope. This information can be generated for any modeling scenario and any hydraulic time step in an extended period (dynamic) simulation.

“We see a tremendous opportunity to help engineering professionals minimize the obstacles that make water system master planning overly complicated and inefficient,” said MWH Soft Vice President — Director of Americas Operations, J. Erick Heath, P.E. “Our customers’ work is complex. Their tools shouldn’t have to be. H2ONET PZM gives them a major advantage by delivering the best of our multi-disciplinary modeling and master planning expertise in a tool that is easy to learn, use and deploy. It will enable them to complete projects faster and more accurately than ever before while eliminating unnecessary expense. With this introduction, H2ONET Executive Suite has become the ultimate AutoCAD®-based decision support tool for water distribution systems.”

“MWH Soft is committed to delivering solutions with the functionality our customers need to maximize their efforts and create better projects,” added Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., Hon.D.WRE, F.ASCE, President and COO of MWH Soft. “Our H2ONET customers asked us for this important master planning capability. We created PZM to be the simplest, most powerful master planning tool in our industry with the highest pound-for-pound return. This is the ultimate approach to developing quality hydraulic diagram designs for improved pressure zone management in support of reliable, cost-effective capital investment decisions. We are proud to introduce another groundbreaking product that will immediately streamline and enhance the invaluable work our users do.”
