ArcSquirrel launches offering low cost database integration for ArcGIS users

January 06, 2010 -- Everyone wants seamless GIS and database integration, but achieving this is rarely easy and certainly isn’t always affordable. “ArcSquirrel” provides an innovative solution for ArcGIS users, turning ArcMap into an editing client for Microsoft SQL Server, without the need for any additional middleware or higher licence levels. This allows users to benefit from the power of ArcGIS desktop, while achieving enterprise-level scalability, data security and the integration of spatial data with wider business systems.

Developed by exeGesIS SDM Ltd, a UK based GIS and software development company, ArcSquirrel is designed to be extremely user-friendly allowing a competent ArcGIS user and database administrator to have it up and running in minutes.

At the launch event, ArcSquirrel project manager Crispin Flower said that “in the current economic climate ArcSquirrel is an intelligent response for organisations that are looking hard at how to get the most from their budgets whilst at the same time maximising the value of their existing investment in ArcGIS”.

Beta testers have been using ArcSquirrel in applications as wide-ranging as geothermal energy in Iceland, archaeology in England, and abalone fisheries research in Tasmania and have provided enthusiastic feedback: "excellent software", "the product has enormous potential for our organization", "simple to use in ArcGIS and the layout looks nice" and "a lovely piece of software"!
