HP Technology Helps ANIMEX Bring Nitké to Latin Audiences

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 4, 2009ANIMEX Studios has tapped HP technology to bring the animated film “ Nikté” to Latin audiences, beginning with its release tomorrow in Mexico theaters.

Achieved through the use of HP technology, audiences will be taken on a visual adventure through the vibrantly colored jungle of Mexico. HP Workstations, HP ProLiant Servers and HP DreamColor Displays enabled ANIMEX to bring to life every creative aspect of the film, from the lush green jungle with brightly colored flowers to the ancient Olmec civilization.

Powered by more than 50 HP desktop and blade workstations, ANIMEX was able to create the largest monster in the film, Tah´nohoch, a huge hive of locusts made up of approximately 50 million textured and shaded particles creating a humanoid form.

“Without the power and reliability of HP technology it would have been very difficult to create ‘Nitké,’” said Paul Rodoreda, executive producer, ANIMEX. “Tah’nohoch alone would have been impossible to design and render on our old equipment.”

The render farm, built of HP blade workstations, allowed ANIMEX to render more than 15,000 frames per day. The entire film – about 130,000 frames – took only 40 hours to render. During the creation of the film, HP technology powered the rendering of nearly 500,000 frames and 350 stereo tracks. In addition, HP DreamColor Displays provided artists with consistent and accurate color output, giving them more time to focus on other creative aspects of the film.

Companies use HP workstations to design everything from running shoes to race cars, animated characters to deep-sea submersibles, and to manage everything from billions of dollars of tradable securities to mission-critical IT environments.

About Nitké

Nitké is the story of a little girl, a poor foster child that wants to be a princess in the ancient world of the Olmecas. The story teaches that to be the greatest, first you have to be the smallest. In the film, Nitké is so poor she becomes arrogant and annoying, and deceives everyone around her into believing she is a princess sent by the Gods to save them from Tah´nohoch, as the prophecy said. She never imagined that she would have to fulfill that prophecy and depart in a journey of self knowing where she meets a series of characters that help her find herself.
