Harrisburg, Pa. — November 30, 2009 — GeoDecisions, an award-winning leader in the information technology industry that specializes in geospatial solutions, celebrated the annual
geographic information system (GIS) Day on Nov. 18, 2009, with a series of presentations and events throughout the country.
GIS Day is a global, grassroots event held during the third week of November aimed at providing a better understanding of GIS in our communities, schools, and organizations. Many employees throughout GeoDecisions captured the essence of the day by delivering educational lectures at colleges and universities that featured real-world examples of GIS and its extensive applications and benefits in our world.
The nationwide educational outreach efforts included interactive workshops and presentations at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Franklin & Marshall College, Shippensburg University, Old Dominion University, and others.
Additionally, GeoDecisions delivered two presentations at HACC during its GIS Day event, which featured workshops and demonstrations from students, local, state, and federal agencies, nonprofits, professional organizations, and members of the private industry.
"GeoDecisions is pleased to be part of the global effort to help build an understanding and appreciation of the power of GIS," said Tony Pietropola, president of GeoDecisions. "We hope our efforts help students and others to learn about opportunities in the field of geospatial technology and how this technology impacts our daily lives."
