Applied Robotics Introduces New Family of Heavy Duty Modular Tool Changers

Applied Robotics’ SmartChange Tool Changers Deliver Strongest and Most Flexible Robotic Tool Changers Available to Maximize Robot Load Capability

GLENVILLE, N.Y. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 16, 2009 — Applied Robotics Inc., a leading global manufacturer of robotic end-of-arm tooling and connectivity solutions, announced today its newest family of heavy duty modular tool changers. The SmartChange tool changers’ new coupling mechanism & six-cam locking design provides the strongest and most capable tool changer on today’s market. The family consists of four models that match all current robots’ bolt patterns from 125mm on up. With no adapter plates and the strength of the 6 cam coupling mechanism there is no need to review the load capabilities of the tool changer versus the robot. Simply select the model that corresponds to your robot’s bolt pattern and it works.

“Robots have become larger, stronger and faster and therefore we designed our SmartChange family to exceed the e-stop moment loads of all the robots currently on the market,” said Jim Fitzgerald, vice president of Applied Robotics Inc. “Our goal was to deliver a smarter and stronger solution. The materials used, the design of the coupling mechanism, and the ease of programming with the elimination of locating pins in the SmartChange design, all make it the strongest and smartest tool change solution available.”

The SmartChange family consists of the SC125, SC160, SC200 and SC250 models, all with moment load capabilities that exceed the e-stop moment loads of every robot currently available with respective faceplate mounting configurations of 125mm, 160mm, 200mm, and 250mm. The tool changers incorporate high-strength steel alloys to maximize their potential and feature a new coupling mechanism that is stronger than any other in the industry, and feature a compact footprint that accommodates high load carrying capability, and high dynamic loads. Flexible utility mounting positions provide easy integration. Dovetail mounting features with single self-retained fasteners allow for quick, secure, and repeatable attachment of modules.
