ESRI Delivers an Enterprise Platform for Geospatial Intelligence

Redlands, California—October 8, 2009—The GEOINT 2009 Symposium in Texas this month will spotlight the latest geospatial technologies for defense and intelligence, including innovative geographic information system (GIS) software from ESRI.

The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation hosts GEOINT, regarded as the country’s premier geospatial intelligence event. This year’s symposium will be held October 18–21 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

GIS technology gives agencies the ability to select, fuse, and analyze complex intelligence data through a map-driven interface, then use this geospatial knowledge as a basis for making decisions. ESRI’s sales, marketing, and technical staff will demonstrate to national security, defense, and intelligence professionals how their organizations can use ESRI’s suite of ArcGIS software to deliver situational awareness across the enterprise and analyze complex sets of data.

ArcGIS software provides an essential and cross-cutting capability for the GEOINT community to see patterns and discover nonobvious relationships in data. Analysts will gain superior situational awareness by visualizing the fused results in a geospatially enabled common operational picture (COP).

ESRI offers desktop, server, and mobile GIS software, along with Web services and comprehensive developer tools. The company also provides basemap data, available on DVD, on the Web via ArcGIS Online, or within a firewall using an ESRI data appliance. The ArcGIS platform supports information technology, cartographic, and defense and intelligence standards, creating a broad range of interoperability.

The technology ESRI will demonstrate at GEOINT will include

  • ArcGIS Server. This software includes a powerful data fusion and analysis engine, server technology for publishing Web map services, and a set of fully customizable clients for viewing data.

  • ArcGIS Server Image Extension. This extension manages and delivers large sets of imagery. It streamlines the image delivery process from the sensor to those who need it: analysts, warfighters, and decision makers.

  • The Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit Geospatial Appliance. The Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit (CJMTK) Geospatial Appliance (CGA), built by Northrop Grumman in collaboration with ESRI, delivers basemaps for defense and intelligence operations. The CGA combines the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) datasets with commercial datasets in an appliance that delivers fast and easy access to basemaps and map services.
ESRI also designs innovative developer technology for Web 2.0 and the next generation of geospatially enabled applications. ArcGIS Explorer, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Mobile Software Developer Kit (SDK) or the ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs—Flex, Silverlight, or JavaScript—can be used to build and deploy Internet applications and mashups. For example, technology such as ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight/Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) can be used to build mashups to provide information-rich, geographically focused intelligence products for communities of interest.
