DeviceAnywhere Test Center™ to Support Geographical Location Emulation to Drive Growth in New Wave of Location-Based Products
SAN MATEO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 7, 2009 — DeviceAnywhere™, the global leader in end-to-end mobile application testing and development solutions, today announced its support for GPS-enabled handsets within DeviceAnywhere Test Center™. As part of its commitment to support location-based services on mobile handsets, DeviceAnywhere has also entered into a co-marketing agreement with NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, to support the development of the next generation of location-enabled solutions.
Providing around-the-clock access to over 45 GPS-enabled handsets upon launch, including the Palm Pre, BlackBerry® Storm™ and iPhone 3GS, DeviceAnywhere Test Center will allow developers of location based services (LBS) and location-aware applications to replicate the GPS location of a device, eliminating the need for costly field trials and significantly reducing time-to-market. DeviceAnywhere will enable this feature on additional handsets in the coming months.
Under the terms of its global co-marketing agreement with NAVTEQ, DeviceAnywhere will offer five free hours of access to all registered members of the NAVTEQ Network for Developers™ (NN4D), a dynamic web portal and global community that provides developers and business partners with the technical and business support needed to build, showcase and launch the most innovative location-enabled solutions.
DeviceAnywhere is also a global platform sponsor of the 2010 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge®, the leading LBS developer competition. DeviceAnywhere will provide contestants with 10 free hours of testing on a specific list of devices provided by the device sponsors. In addition, DeviceAnywhere will be contributing 50 free test hours on any package in its DeviceAnywhere Test Center to the Grand Prize Winner and two runners-up in each region for 90 days after the competition. To register for the Global LBS Challenge, go to www.LBSChallenge.com.
“We are committed to supporting our developer community and easing typical developer challenges by working with leading players in their field. DeviceAnywhere will play a key role in allowing us to support the introduction of multiple technology and device platforms to our growing community of developers through the availability of real handsets on live networks at the touch of a button,” said Marc Naddell, vice president, Partner & Developer Programs, NAVTEQ. “Our developers are breaking new grounds and we expect to see increased growth and diversification in applications this year thanks to a broader developer offering.”
DeviceAnywhere currently supports more than 2,000 devices on over 30 different carrier networks worldwide, with locations in the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, Germany, and Spain. Its unique Direct-to-Device™ technology provides access to real handsets in live global networks, from anywhere in the world.
“LBS represents one of the most exciting and fastest growing sectors in mobile and has the potential to change the way in which people use their mobile handset, as well as creating new revenue opportunities for both developers and service providers,” said Faraz Syed, CEO, and Co-Founder of DeviceAnywhere. “DeviceAnywhere has become the ‘go-to’ solution for the mobile developer community, and through the introduction of this new GPS capability we look forward to working with NAVTEQ to support the creation of the next-generation of location-based products and services for mobile platforms.”

Notes to Editors
With the most extensive bank of real handsets in the market DeviceAnywhere is the only solution that:
- Employs real, physical handsets connected to live networks – NOT emulators/simulators or other technologies that may control only a subset of the devices’ functionality
- Empowers users to interact with devices exactly as if they held the devices in their hands. This includes tasks such as pressing device buttons, tapping on touch screens, connecting/disconnecting the battery, viewing the LCD, listening to ringers and speakers and opening/closing a handset
- Offers pixel-by-pixel representations of LCD displays allowing for accurate image and text matching – displaying exactly what the end-user would experience
- Allows users to emulate the GPS location of the device to test their applications in different cities, countries and continents
