Robust Software Meets Demanding Requirements Under Part L2 of U.K.’s Building Regulations for Reducing CO2 Emissions in New and Existing Level 5 Buildings
EXTON, Pa. – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains our world, today announced that its Hevacomp Simulator V8i building energy simulation software has been certified by the United Kingdom’s Communities and Local Governments (CLG) for dynamic simulation modeling (DSM). As a result, Hevacomp Simulator V8i now meets the demanding requirements under Part L2 of the U.K. Building Regulations, which establishes measures for reducing CO2 emissions in all new and existing Level 5 buildings. Level 5 buildings typically have mixed-mode or passively conditioned spaces and employ sophisticated power plants and systems – making it difficult to effectively simulate their energy use with the simplified building energy modeling method (SBEM). Hevacomp Simulator V8i is the first and only software certified for DSM to use the EnergyPlus engine, the global standard developed by the U.S. Department of Energy for dynamic energy analysis.
To support the DSM certification of its Hevacomp Simulator V8i software, Bentley is offering a new Level 5 Energy Assessor training program and exam. The training program provides aspiring energy assessors with the knowledge and skills they need to demonstrate competence in the production of Level 5 Energy Performance Certificates and apply to become a member of an accreditation scheme.
“Given the U.K.’s rapidly growing demand for high performance buildings, building service engineers must increasingly carry out over-heating frequency, mixed-mode ventilation, and computational fluid dynamics analyses. All of these can be readily and reliably accomplished using our Hevacomp Simulator software,” said Nigel Bird, global manager, Bentley Building Performance Group.
Bird continued, “Equally important, Hevacomp Simulator V8i interoperates with Hevacomp Mechanical Designer V8i, Bentley’s tool for generating engineering-quality building load and energy calculations. Therefore, rather than being forced to carry out mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, analysis, and dynamic energy simulations in separate workflows, building service engineers can perform all of these calculations in a seamless, highly efficient workflow that saves time and money and leads to better-performing buildings.”
Hevacomp Simulator V8i and Hevacomp Mechanical Designer V8i, along with Bentley Tas Simulator V8i, are part of Bentley’s Energy Performance Series. This robust software for building energy design, analysis, and simulation makes it possible for engineers, architects, and energy assessors to better understand and accurately predict the energy consumption, CO2 emissions, operating costs, and occupant comfort of projects ranging from small and simple to very large and highly complex. Bentley’s Energy Performance Series has been proven in the very demanding U.K. market for the design and construction of high performance “green” buildings and now supports United States and Canadian standards.
