Richmond, VA – August 11, 2009 – Timmons Group, a leading provider of geospatial and engineering consulting services, recently completed development on an ESRI 9.x ArcEngine Field Application for the Department of Mines, Mineral, and Energy (DMME). Timmons Group worked with DMME initially to scope and define the requirements for the ArcEngine application. Timmons was then engaged to develop and deploy the solution.
The project received funding from the Governor’s Productivity Investment Fund. Timmons created an ArcEngine SDK extension that uses object oriented application coding to replace an outdated Field Mapping Application based on ESRI MapObjects.
The application provides a customized mapping solution for DMME, while putting data in the hands of the users in the field. The functionality of the application allows users to employ core mapping navigation user controls, robust custom querying and the ability to export data easily to multiple formats. The product's functionality and ability to communicate with GPS devices allows staff to be more productive and efficient in the field. DMME's new application keeps paces with ESRI client and server software enhancements, while taking advantage of low-cost ESRI ArcEngine licensing.

Timmons Group deployed the final product to DMME in early 2009, and is now being used by 75 percent of its field staff. The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) serves the Commonwealth through its six divisions. The agency regulates the mineral industry, provides mineral research and offers advice on using resources wisely.
