Carbon Project Supports Success of Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) thread of OGC's Web Services Testbed

BURLINGTON, MA, June 22, 2009 - The Carbon Project successfully supported the completion of the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) thread of OGC's Web Services Initiative Phase 6 (OWS-6). The Carbon Project was selected for this role based on the company's expertise in standards-based software, and its proven track record developing applications for next-generation Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) based on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards.

The OWS-6 AIM thread was sponsored by the US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and EUROCONTROL and focused on testing emerging standards and prototyping cutting edge technologies in support of a realistic NextGen aviation scenario. Within the thread, The Carbon Project developed and demonstrated its AIM solutions for building Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) with cutting edge user experiences and spatiotemporal AIXM 5/WXXM capabilities. The project showcased the extension of the CarbonTools PRO API to support spatial and temporal queries, as well as support to advanced parsing and management using the temporal data model of the AIXM 5 standard. In addition to CarbonTools PRO, the development effort used some of the latest Microsoft platforms including .NET 3.5 Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). These capabilities were demonstrated in multiple scenarios highlighting delivery of up-to-date aeronautical and weather information to pilots and aircraft while at the airport gate or en-route to destinations.

Mr. Goldstein also presented the achievements of the thread at the 2009 Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM)/Weather Exchange Model (WXXM) conference in Washington, DC ( http://www.faa.gov/aixm). An encore presentation will take place at the OGC TC meeting on June 26 at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
