June 15, 2009 -- Silver Spring, MD – MobiLaps LLC, represented by Dr. Nadine Alameh, successfully lead the completion of the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) thread of OGC’s Web Services Initiative Phase 6 (OWS-6). Dr. Alameh was selected for this leadership role based on her expertise in geospatial standards and architecture, and her proven track record in managing successful testbedding and rapid prototyping activities. Dr. Alameh has been an active member of the OGC Interoperability Program since 2001 and successfully lead previous interoperability testbedding tasks within OWS-1.2, OWS-2, OWS-3, OWS-4 and OWS-5.
The OWS-6 AIM thread was sponsored by the US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and EUROCONTROL and focused on testing emerging standards and prototyping cutting edge technologies in support of a realistic aviation scenario. Within the thread, Dr. Alameh lead a diverse international team of participants and sponsors in applying OGC and other web standards for providing up-to-date aeronautical and weather information to pilots and aircraft while at the airport gate or en-route to its destination. The team of participants included Lufthansa Systems (Germany), Fedex (USA), Snowflake Software (UK), Luciad (Belgium), Carbon Project (USA), University of Muenster (Germany), and PCAvionics (USA). The team successfully demonstrated the use of OGC standards for on-demand access to Aeronautical (AIXM) and Weather (WXXM) data by flight decks and Electronic Flight Bags (EFB).
Results of the OWS-6 AIM thread, including slides and demo videos, are available at
http://www.opengeospatial.org/pub/www/ows6/index.html. Dr. Alameh was also invited by FAA to present the achievements of the thread at the 2009 Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM)/Weather Exchange Model (WXXM) conference (

“It has been my pleasure and privilege to work with such a talented and enthusiastic group of participants in OWS-6 AIM to showcase the applicability of OGC standards and Web Service Architecture in the Aeronautical Information Management domain,” says Dr. Alameh, President of MobiLaps LLC. “I look forward to continuing the partnership with OGC, FAA and EUROCONTROL in applying OGC standards in initiatives such as NextGEN and SESAR”.
