CHICAGO, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, announced today that its Map and Positioning Engine (MPE) strategy has been recognized by leading automotive industry trade associations and conferences for its leadership and innovation in providing an industry strategy that enables easier integration of map-enhanced safety and fuel efficiency applications for vehicles.
Awards include the 2009 AEI Tech Awards in collaboration with the SAE 2009 World Congress. This acknowledgement from the editors of Automotive Engineering International highlighted innovative products displayed at the recent SAE 2009 World Congress. Frost & Sullivan awarded the Best European Automotive Safety Product to NAVTEQ on May 20.
Best Telematics Component Solution was awarded to NAVTEQ at the Telematics Update awards program on June 2, 2009. Additionally Daimler Trucks North America won an award for Best Telematics Service and Application for Commercial Vehicles for their Run Smart(TM) predictive cruise control fuel efficiency application. This application is the first commercial use of digital map data for vehicle energy efficiency, and was implemented independent of a navigation system.
"NAVTEQ's MPE strategy demonstrates a new way to bring vehicle positioning and predictive road information to the vehicle such that all vehicles can have this capability," stated Bob Denaro, NAVTEQ vice president of ADAS. "We are proud of the recognition by our peers that the MPE significantly advances ADAS, fuel economy and telematics solutions, supporting NAVTEQ's research that consumers are demanding these new features in their vehicles."
With hardware designed by STMicroelectronics using their Teseo GPS to create the MPE, the strategy integrates the NAVTEQ map ADAS attributes on a tiny printed circuit board or distributed elsewhere in the vehicle electronics architecture. NAVTEQ's recommended MPE specification and the NAVTEQ Electronic Horizon(TM) contained in the NAVTEQ MPE Development Platform, enables application developers to quickly test, evaluate and develop ADAS solutions for the market for use in a broad array of vehicles.
The MPE strategy expands NAVTEQ's ongoing support of ADAS with the NAVTEQ(R) map available for embedded navigation systems, by now addressing vehicles that do not have such systems. In addition to providing quality map data, NAVTEQ has an experienced technical and customer engineering support staff. The ADAS research team assists customers with developing ADAS and fuel economy applications enabling efficient use of customer resources and reduction in the development cycle.
