11th June 2009 – Imass Ltd, an Infoterra company, has won the contract to supply Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) with a corporate gazetteer management solution.
This solution will enable the creation and maintenance of a complete corporate location information resource - supporting effective management of all location-based information, such as local address and mapping data. Also, as this software solution meets the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) standard, KFRS will be able to access the NLPG national hub of address data - more than 32 million records – receive regular updates and input up-to-date local information. Therefore enabling KFRS to make the best use of national address sources and local knowledge.

This software solution from Aligned Assets, specialists in gazetteer solutions, will be installed during Q2 of this year with all teams receiving training ready for deployment throughout the service.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for delivering fire and rescue services to more than 1.6 million people in Kent and Medway region, from 66 fire stations and four fire safety offices. With more than 400km (250 miles) of motorway and major trunk roads, and over 225km (139 miles) of coastline, inland waterways and the busiest sea channel in the world, the service is used to dealing with a huge range of hazardous and dangerous incidents every day.

The National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) is the definitive, national address list that provides
unique identification of land and property and conforms to BS 7666 (2006). The NLPG is updated on a continual basis by the local authorities in England and Wales, with change only updates available every working day.
The NLPG also has a mechanism for data management, continual updates and improvements. The NLPG has robust processes for resolving issues such as mismatched addresses and different addresses referring to the same location. The NLPG provides connectivity through the use of an unchanging centrally managed Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) linked to the address.
All 376 local authorities in England and Wales supply data to the NLPG. The NLPG contains more than 32 million residential, business and non-mailing addresses across England and Wales.
